I received these haircare samples in Marie Claire's Summer 2015 Edit of The Parcel (reviewed here).
I was super excited to see them because I discovered OGX products last year and the macadamia versions in the brown containers went straight to HG status almost from the first use (I've reviewed those here), so I was more than happy to try another set from the range.
While I don't love these blue ones, they're not terrible so it may just be that they're better for normal to oily hair and not dry hair like mine.
OGX claims/product details:
- Renewing formula helps strengthen and soften all at once
- Smooths your locks to their silkiest potential
- Contains Argan oil of Morocco, to help restore hair and protect it from styling
- For all hair types
- Free of sulfates and parabens
- Not tested on animals
- RRP $17.99 AUD each for 385ml, but do shop around
Verdict (shampoo)
While testing this product, I've been comparing it to my OGX Hydrating Macadamia Oil Shampoo (I've got a bottle of that on the go at the moment) and I've been able to see a clear difference between the products and how they perform.
While the macadamia version cleans and lathers well, this argan oil product does neither: I find I need three washes with this shampoo, and even then my hair never feels completely clean. This also means it's not as good value as the macadamia product because I'm getting through this travel-sized bottle all too quickly.
On top of that, my hair has become super dry since I started testing this product, so I'm glad I've only got smaller bottles since I wouldn't continue using these if I owned them in full size. I've had a look online and noticed that quite a few people have noticed the drying issue with this particular OGX shampoo, so it's something to consider if you're interested in trying anything from the range.
In sum, this isn't a great shampoo despite the beautiful, velvety texture of the product itself. I'd pick something else from the OGX range and avoid this product.
Verdict (conditioner)
While I think this is a better product than the matching shampoo, it's not great and I don't think it's suited to my dry, frizzy hair.
As with the shampoo, I've been testing this product alongside my OGX Hydrating Macadamia Oil Conditioner, and the latter is the superior product (at least on my hair).
What I love about my macadamia version is that it leaves my dry hair beautifully soft, shiny and conditioned - and while this blue one isn't terrible, it doesn't do a great job and I don't get the same fantastic results.
Perhaps part of the problem with this conditioner is that - as mentioned above - the matching shampoo dries out my hair, so the conditioner needs to work harder than the macadamia one (because the macadamia shampoo is better), but it's just not up to the task.
Also, what I love most about the macadamia version is that it works wonders on frizz - even that hard wiry stuff around the hairline that's notoriously difficult to tame - so I don't need to use leave-in products after washing because my hair is fine as it is (something that's never happened before!). With this conditioner, however, I need to slather on a treatment and oil at the ends after washing, just to hydrate my hair and attempt to control all my frizz.
Overall, this isn't a terrible product but I'd recommend trying something else from the OGX range. There's a lot to choose from so hopefully you can find something that works for you.
Have you used OGX products before? Let me know your favourites if so : )
