Project Pan 2018: March update

Hello and welcome to my March update for Project Pan 2018!

As you can see, I happily finished off another product this month - being my Mecca Lit From Within Illuminating Primer.

I've been panning this for three months now (see markers above), so I'm more than happy to send it packing and move on to something else.

There it is again:

It hasn't been my best month, I must say: I only finished three products and decluttered a fourth.

You may have heard me mention earlier that I'm not expecting huge panning numbers this year for the simple reason that my collection is smaller these days (and I'm currently on no buys for both makeup and skincare), so it's going to be a slow panning year and I'm ok with that.

As for the rest of my products (and do note that I forgot to photograph my Laura Mercier highlighter in the shot below, sorry!):

Here's what's left on my list:

  • Laura Mercier Baked Powder in Highlight 01
  • Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch Primer
  • BareMinerals BareSkin Serum Concealer in Medium Golden
  • Elizabeth Arden Fragrance in Green Tea
  • Revlon Uniq One Hair Treatment
  • Revlon Balm Stain in 001 Honey
  • NXY Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in Castle
  • Alpha-H Absolute Lip Perfector
  • Jurlique's Love Balm in Rose
  • Sportsgirl Pout About It! Lipstick in IT Girl (decluttered)
  • Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in 180 Vintage Pink
  • Laura Mercier Baked Powder in Bronze 04
  • Mecca Lit from Within Illuminating Primer

Last month's update is here if you're interested.

Let's have a quick look at each item in turn, starting with the product I forgot to photograph above.

There's how my Laura Mercier highlighter looked last month:

And here's how it's looking now:

You probably can't see any difference between the first shot and the second one, but in real life I can certainly see a flattening of the product's surface (right in the middle).

I've been using this every day as my highlighter, mixed with one of the shades in the Hourglass blush palette I'm panning because the Laura Mercier is too frosty on me by itself.

I do like this highlighter so I'm happy to pan it, but it does look better on me when mixed. I'm not sure if I can finish it this year but I'll certainly try.

Next, my Elizabeth Arden Green Tea fragrance. This is moving along at a steady pace and I expect it to be gone within two months.

I do like this fragrance but it just doesn't last so it's one that you need to keep reapplying throughout the day. If I remembered to use it I would probably have finished it by now, but I haven't been great at applying perfume daily since I had kids!

Next, my Revlon hair treatment. As you may know, this product doesn't work for me at all so I've had to get creative with how I use it. I don't mind the smell so it's been good to use as a hair fragrance (on an inconspicuous part of my hair because it looks rotten on) and I've also been using it to protect mine and the kids' hair before we go swimming.

This month we also ran out of air freshener for the bathroom, and I've discovered that a few spritzes of this in the toilet bowl works wonders: indeed, I think it's an even better and more lasting freshener than the one we were using! Now that I've discovered this, I should be able to get through it more quickly: perhaps in another two months.

Above is how my Clarins primer was looking last month.

And here's how it's looking now:

That's some good movement! I'm glad I decided to include the before shots in this post: mental note to keep doing it.

While it may look to some that I mightn't have much left, as you can see in the shot above, there's still a lot of product around those wider edges so I can see this lasting another two months - especially because we've got a couple of short trips coming up and I won't be lugging this heavy thing around with me (yay, though, that I'll soon be having a break from it!).

Above is how my Jurlique balm looked last month.

And below is how it's looking now:

Before you wonder how on earth I burned through so much product so quickly, I've mostly been using this to treat dry skin on my elbows, knees and feet.

Indeed, I could have finished it that way this month but held the last remaining product to use on my cuticles and also my lips (I don't like it on my lips unfortunately: it's too slippery and the rose scent is too strong for my personal tastes). I did this because I still need to review it so I'll need to move that post up in the queue so I can finally finish this.

Next up, my Revlon and NYX lip products. You'll see my marker sheet for these below.

I don't mind either of these and I can see myself knocking out at least one over the next month, although I'm yet to review them so I may find myself in the Jurlique situation: rationing products to give myself time to review them!

If I can get both of these reviewed throughout April, then I should be able to finish them within the month. We'll see.

And now for my last two products:

Let's talk about the Alpha-H balm first because I've been bad with that one throughout March. Indeed, it's only over the last few days that I appear to have remembered it again so there was no point marking it because there's very little progress to see. Oops! Must make up for that this month.

As for my BareMinerals concealer, I suspect this will last until the end of May. While it doesn't look like there's heaps left, I still haven't removed the stopper so it won't be finished as quickly as one might think (you live, you learn).

I could probably pan it faster if I wanted to by eg using it as foundation (mixed with some whitening drops), but it's too full coverage for me if I do that so I'd prefer to keep using it for mixing with the two bases I have that are too pale for me.

Now for my replacement:

I only have four bases at the moment and this is one of them: my Chantecaille Just Skin Anti Smog Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15.

It's ridiculously expensive but all I can say is that I had around $80 AUD in store credit, which I used to put towards this product (so it only 'cost' me around $24; sort of). This situation is probably the only one in which I would ever drop over $100 on a tinted moisturiser. Ridiculous.

I like it, I do. But you don't need to spend that much on a tinted moisturiser. Good gracious.

I reckon I've used about a quarter of the 50ml tube, so there's a long way to go and I certainly won't be burning through something that cost this much.

I decided to pan it since I was using it most days anyway (mixed with my BareMinerals concealer because it's too pale for me - another reason to pan it): it makes a great, everyday base. So I'll be using it five days a week and reaching for something else on weekends. A nice, gentle way to pan a product!

In sum

That's all from me. I hope you enjoyed this little update and that you're going well with your own panning projects.

Do note that I'm currently panning three other products 'on the side' and I'll be bringing those onto my official list as soon as I start finishing more stuff.

Hope all's well with you, and speak soon x
