I received this sample body cream in my first-ever box from Maslow & Co (the NZ Box, reviewed here).

I was pleased to see the cream because my skin is perpetually dry and I'm always on the lookout for hydrating products, and this one looked super promising. Unfortunately I don't love it - it's good but I've used better - and I'm calling that a good thing because it ain't cheap and nobody likes falling in love with products that are outside budget!

I hadn't heard of Sans[ceuticals] before so I had a look at the brand's website, which states:

Verdict

This product sounds so wonderful and the brand has obviously spent a lot of time coming up with a formula that's designed to really help the skin. Unfortunately this doesn't translate to a super amazing product - at least for me - and while I'm glad I've tried it, it's not a product I would buy.

It's a thick cream with a nice texture and a pleasant, natural scent that's quite faint so it shouldn't offend most people who don't like fragranced products.

It doesn't leave a greasy residue, but I can feel it after use and it's almost a bit sticky once applied - plus the film it leaves hangs around for ages, which makes me wonder how well the cream is being absorbed.

On that, my biggest issue with the product is that it does take some work to rub in. The first time I used it, I had so much trouble with streaking and getting the product to absorb that I gave up in the end and just left it as it was.

After that, I made sure to warm it in my hands first (by rubbing them together before application), and while this did help, the product still didn't want to absorb easily and that's something that bothers me with any cream. So do be aware of this if you're like me and just want something that you can throw on without extra work.

Also, while the product sounds super hydrating and nourishing when you read its description, it doesn't feel that way on my dry skin. I've been comparing this to other hydrating body creams while I've been testing it, and the parts of my body where I've used this product never feel or look as nourished as the rest of me.

Plus as mentioned, I'm aware of the cream sitting on top of my skin long after use, and I don't feel this with other creams (eg my MOR Candied Vanilla Hand & Body Lotion, reviewed here, which was one of my comparison products).

On top of that, because the product is thick, it doesn't spread easily and I need to use more of it per application than I do other creams - which decreases the product's value on a per-use basis.

Another thing to note is that I think the packaging was a bad choice for this travel-sized version of the product. While it looks nice, the product is thick and the bottle it comes in is a harder plastic, so it's difficult to squeeze the contents out of the nozzle and instead I've just been taking the lid off and giving the bottle a good shake over my hand to get the stuff out (and I've been standing the bottle upside down to make the whole process easier). It's a small detail but it's worth mentioning all the same - perhaps a tube would have been better - and at least the full-size comes with a pump.

All in all, this is a nice product that sounds so wonderful in theory, but it's just not hydrating enough for my dry skin. I'm sure it would be fine for other skin types, but I need more and I'm not willing to drop forty bucks on a body cream that doesn't want to absorb and doesn't keep my dry skin feeling comfortable.

Nice but not for me.

Morning all! This is just a short note to say that I'm sorry I haven't posted for the last couple of days: my husband and I went down the coast over the weekend and we had such trouble hooking up my temperamental computer to the hotspot on his iPhone, that in the end we just gave up.

Would you believe, it's the first holiday we've had with just us in something like two and a half years?! It's also the first time we've been away without our little girl, because I weaned her recently so we were able to do it. All that peace felt amazing!

Anyhoo. If I'd known that I wouldn't be able to get internet while we were away, I would have let you guys know before leaving, so I'm sorry about that but never fear: I've got a bundle of posts to write this week and I'm looking forward to those.

The holiday was a much-needed break in the end: all we did was eat out and lie in bed watching TV series and movies. It's happily that time of year when the good stuff is starting to flood in - Game of Thrones, Peaky Blinders and The Americans to name a few - so the TV draught is over and I'm sure many people are thrilled to have quality TV to watch again, after surviving the off-season and making do with lesser programs.

And I suppose it was a good thing that I wasn't able to spend my mornings pasted to my computer. I'm one of those people who needs to write because it's part of who I am and it's my hobby as well as my work, so I don't need breaks from it in the way others do if it's just a job for them and nothing more. But it doesn't hurt to take a little break now and then, and come back with a recharged brain.

But that's enough rambling for now: I've got a few posts I've been desperate to write, so I'll get stuck into those and hopefully have them up soon.

Hope all's well with you guys, and that you enjoyed your weekends : )
