Palmer's Coconut Oil Body Lotion - review

Like many pregnant lasses, I've been absolutely tearing through the body cream lately because I apply it so frequently. Forget about whether you can potentially help stave off stretchmarks by keeping your skin hydrated and supple - I personally need to apply it because I get so damn itchy!
That's one of the many things they don't tell you about being pregnant: for many, your skin starts to itch like crazy as it gets stretched. For me, the best solution to this is to keep slathering on the cream, so I have another one up for review today: I bought it not long ago because it was on special, and I'm pleased to report that I do like it and it's a lot better than some of the others I've used lately.
Let's have a look : )
Palmer's claims/product details:
- Created for the love of coconut, Palmer’s latest addition to its famous lotion collection is a tropical treat
- A rich, deeply moisturising body lotion infused with pure coconut oil and Tahitian monoi
- Leaves skin feeling silky soft and hydrated
- Contains high levels of naturally occurring fatty acids and proteins that are essential in keeping skin radiant and healthy-looking
- Use daily, all over body, for indulgently pampered, soft skin
- No parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, gluten, sulphates or dyes
- Contains sustainably and ethically sourced coconut and Tahitian monoi oils
- Available in 400ml, 250ml and 50ml sizes
- RRP $7.39AUD for 250ml, but do shop around
Verdict
This is a really lovely body lotion and I'm enjoying using it.
It's a white, medium thick product that's heavier than your standard lotion and is more like a cream in texture. I personally prefer this because my dry skin needs the hydration, but I'd test this first if you're after a standard lotion because it might be too rich for you.
What I love most about this product is the scent: yes it smells like coconut, but it's a different kind of coconut smell than the one I'm used to in skincare. While I like the standard 'fake' coconut scent that's in other products, I like this even more - it's fresher and more real to me than other scents. I honestly feel that I've just opened a bag of shredded coconut whenever I use this, and the scent alone is reason enough for me to buy it!
As for the product itself, I think the formula is fantastic. It's rich and hydrating enough to nourish my dry, pregnant skin - but it's not greasy or too thick, and it doesn't leave a residue behind but instead absorbs beautifully and quickly.
Something that constantly surprises me about this product is how little I need to use each time. It spreads so well that a little goes a long, long way, so this bottle should last a lot longer than others have lasted me. That's a plus because I've been getting rather sick of replenishing my stores!
All in all, this is a great product that generally meets its claims and I recommend it. Plus it's not the most expensive item on the market and you can often find it on special at the supermarket or chemist, so it's a win-win situation.
Lovely.
