KMS California Hair Play Molding Paste - review

We received this sample hair styling product a while back from Violet Box. When I read the description I thought it mightn't be for me, but I gave it a couple of goes and was pleasantly surprised so I decided to keep it.
It's only been in the last few weeks, however, that I've brought it into circulation (it's now in my handbag) - I have THAT many hair products in stock, it's ridiculous. Unlike eg skincare, it takes me a really long time to get through hair stuff - even though I have long hair. Is that just me?
The John Frieda Frizz Ease 50ml bottle I'm currently using I've had for over a year, and it's still only half gone. What I might do over the next couple of weeks is try it as eg a hair mask, because it really needs to go. I'm pretty sure it's not working as well as it once was.
Anyhoo. I'm rambling. Let's look at this product!
KMS claims/product details:
- Provides texture, creates pliable hold and adds definition
- Modern, natural finish
- Does not dry hard; for style without helmet head
- Does not leave hair feeling sticky or greasy
- Firm, flexible control, light shine
- Formulated for a wide variety of hold and shine options
- Water soluble
- To use: work through towel-dried hair for shaping and texture; use in dry hair for definition
- RRP $31.95 for 150ml
- Available at eg myhaircare.com.au and from the Violet Box shop, but do shop around for specials/discounts
Verdict
The first thing I noticed about this was the smell: it's a bit full on and reminds me of piƱa coladas. But once I got over that and used it, I liked the effect.
I've used it on dry hair (you can use it on either dry or wet locks) and it tames my fly-aways without weighing my hair down or making it look dirty - both those things being common problems with these types of products.
While it's not my favourite hair-taming product (Frizz Ease has held that position for years), it does the job and 20ml is a good travel or handbag size. It's definitely handy to carry around for those frizz emergencies that happen more often now that it's summer and the weather's getting humid.
In terms of claims, I think it lives up to them - but note I haven't used it on wet hair because I'm not after shaping or texture. I imagine it would perform those functions well though, based on my experience with the product.
Definite ticks from me. We'll see how long it takes me to get through it ; )
