Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow in Honey - review

Finally I'm reviewing the last product from my Benefit How to Look the Best at Everything kit (in medium)!

It's taken me longer than expected to review all the items, but that's mainly because I wanted to give them a really good go before posting on them.

This Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow liquid foundation is one I'd heard a lot about before buying the kit, and it's a product I'd been itching to try. Anything that's said to provide a lighter, natural coverage with decent sun protection is something that finds itself on my list.

Benefit claims/product details:

  • Builds from light to medium coverage for a natural complexion
  • Leaves skin luminous and healthy looking

See above wrist swatch, unblended and blended a little. Below I've blended it completely.

You can see it gives a natural, dewy finish. You can also see that this colour pulls pretty yellow and unfortunately isn't spot on for my skintone. I bought this kit in winter and the foundation was a better match then, so I'm reserving the rest of the bottle for the cooler months when I'm less tanned.

Here's me with no makeup:

Here's the product below. It definitely has a yellow/peachy thing going on that doesn't work for me.

I've done a close up in direct sunlight below. You can see that this product sits in the pores around my hairline. This is a common problem for me and few products manage to avoid doing that.

If the colour was a better match, this would be less of an issue because you wouldn't be able to distinguish between product and skin. As it is, I've got a bunch of little pale dots everywhere that make it clear I'm wearing makeup (click on any image to enlarge it).

Verdict

This is an ok foundation, it's just that the colour isn't quite spot on for my skin at the moment. If it were a better product, you wouldn't be able to see the pale dots around my hairline, regardless of colour. Still, it's not terrible.

For such a runny product, it goes on more thickly than I expected and provides a decent amount of coverage. It's buildable, so if you wanted to apply another layer for more coverage, you could do that without looking too overdone.

It applies nicely and wears well throughout the day. I love the finish - it's dewy without being greasy. I much prefer dewy products than matte ones on me, so that's a big plus.

Another plus is the high sun protection, although you'd want to be applying quite a bit of it to get the full benefit of that, so you should use additional sun protection if you're only applying a thin layer.

The other thing I like about this product is that it feels lightweight and lets my skin breathe, and it's also quite hydrating.

Ticks from me. The only downside is Australian prices for this product, so I'd recommend buying it from the US website and avoiding the rubbish mark-ups.
