January 2016 empties #1

It's been a good start to the year in terms of empties because I've finished a few larger products that I've had open for ages - the kinds of products that you start to think you'll never get through!

I also have three Project Pan products that I managed to finish, a good thing because I've been keen to introduce new products onto my PP list: I was rather bored of everything as it was and I've now been able to move a few new items into circulation. Huzzah!

Dermahouse Deep Cleansing Cream

Full review here. This is one of the few Memebox products I received that I really liked. It's not the best cleansing cream I've used, but the texture and feel on my face made up for what it lacked in cleansing prowess: it's velvety and soothing and a dream to apply.

It did dissolve makeup and grime well, but it didn't quite get everything and it left a residue behind that I needed to remove with another cleanser (I normally double cleanse anyway so that didn't bother me). It's also a super large product so it took ages to finish! Purchase? No.

Rosemoon Rich 53% Collagen Smart Balm

Another Memebox product, and this one I absolutely loved. Full review here. It's one of those products that takes five years off your face when you apply it, and I'm definitely needing some of that these days!

I often wore it on its own because it had such a plumping effect, or over makeup before I went out (although I couldn't wear it with some bases because it had the tendency to 'lift' them and mess things up). I also started using this at night and would wake up to baby smooth skin that looked much younger, fresher and brighter than it had the night before. I was almost wrinkle-free! Purchase? Yes, if I can find somewhere that ships it to Australia.

White Glo Whitening Toothpaste

I received this sample for free but I have used it before and already know that it doesn't do a thing for whitening my teeth. Apparently it's the whitening treatment of choice for many, but I've never noticed a shred of difference when using it so it obviously just doesn't agree with my teeth. Purchase? No.

Bioderma Sensibio Light Soothing Cream

Full review here. I don't love this product as a day cream because it leaves a film on the face that's sticky and a little uncomfortable when applied directly on my skin. I also don't think it's very hydrating, and my dry skin needs more punch.

However, when I saw that it contains glycerine (that'd explain the stickiness), I thought it might have a similar effect to MAC Fix+, which also contains that ingredient. I'm pleased to report that it does, so when worn over makeup it leaves my skin looking dewy and hydrated, and I don't notice the stickiness against my skin because my BB cream acts as a barrier and stops that - plus the BB cream and skincare I've used beneath it give my skin the hydration I need. Purchase? No.

Kérastase Resistance Bain Force Architecte and Masque Force Architecte

I've reviewed these here. I received these travel-sized versions from Lust Have It, and I was thrilled to see them because I've seen so many rave reviews on Kérastase products and I've always wanted to try them.

While I liked them both, they paled in comparison to the OGX products I used before and after these, and the OGX haircare isn't as expensive - plus you can often find OGX heavily discounted at Chemist Warehouse and Priceline. These two items are good products, but they're not worth the pricetag for me. Purchase? No.

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes

I've received these a couple of times from sub boxes, and while they're ok, they don't hold a candle to my Essenzza Fuss Free Naturals Facial Wipes so I only used them because I had them. I've reviewed them here.

There's plenty of moisture in these and they're gentle so they don't irritate my sensitive skin, and while they clean pretty well, they don't remove waterproof products like mascara (few things do) and the Essenzzas aren't the only wipes I've tried that do a better job than these. Purchase? No.

Reed Coconut, Lime & Mint Body Scrub

Full review here. I did like this little scrub but I preferred the Orange & Poppyseed version from Reed so of course I compared it to that one and probably liked this less than I would have if I'd never tried the other scent (I've reviewed that version here).

The lime overtook the smell of this one so I couldn't smell anything but that, and it seemed to dissolve quickly so it wasn't as good at scrubbing as the orange/poppy version. It wasn't a bad product but I'll stick to the Reed scrub I know and love in future. Repurchase? No.

Project Pan products

I won't go into too much detail with these because I've already done that via Project Pan, but I'll briefly comment on each of them for completeness.

The ModelCo BB+ Cream in Medium isn't a great product, at least for me. It doesn't suit my skin and it's far too dark to be labelled 'Medium' in colour. Purchase? No.

The Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Nobody's Baby wound up being little more than an expensive lip balm that didn't offer any colour on my lips, and I finished it faster than I have any lip product before so it wasn't worth the $34 AUD outlay for me. Repurchase? No.

The Lispi Cosmetics Aphrodite Powder is an amazing product for reducing the look of pores and fine lines, and unlike many powders, it doesn't dry out my already dry skin. Purchase? Yes.

In sum

This isn't my best bunch of empties but the Rosemoon and Lipsi products are awesome and I would definitely buy them.

Let me know what products you've finished this month, and whether there's anything extra special that you would buy again : )
