ModelCo Lip & Cheek Tint in Rosy Red - review and swatches

I received this product ages ago from Bellabox, and it's actually my second tube so I'm surprised I haven't reviewed it yet.

I remember that the first tube was difficult to use (it gave an uneven colour), so I sent it to a better home. I opened this tube and hoped the result would be different, but sadly it wasn't - so I'll be giving this one away too.

ModelCo claims/product details:
  • A lightweight, dual purpose cheek and lip tint
  • Delivers a natural, rosy glow
  • Long-lasting gel formulation glides on smoothly, leaving the perfect amount of sheer colour for just-flushed cheeks and a lightly stained lip
  • Ideal for that 'no makeup' look with a subtle hint of colour
  • Non-greasy finish
  • RRP $26 AUD

I squeezed out a small amount above as the directions suggest - you can see it's very runny.

Below I rubbed it in. It has stained and left a shadow in one spot, but the colour has otherwise sheered out to nothing:

There's the colour again below (it's quite subtle):

This time I squeezed out a lot more (it looks a little like blood - erk):

Below I've attempted - and failed - to spread the colour evenly:

Below I've added more and blended it; it looks better, but it's still uneven:

There's what my finger looks like afterwards (maybe most of the colour is going there?!):

Verdict

I don't like this tint at all. I find it too runny and super hard to use because it's impossible to spread evenly. This means I can never get it to look good and I often have to wipe it off and start again. Not what you want when you're rushing to get ready!

I did take photos of what my lips and cheeks looked like with this on, but for some reason my computer wiped them. I decided not to take more because I didn't want this stuff on my face again: suffice to say that it looked just as patchy and bad as it does on my arm.

When it came to applying this to my lips, I had to use a ridiculous amount to even get the colour to show up. Once on, it looked so patchy that I would call it unwearable, and I had to remove it. It was also drying on my lips, so it's not something I can wear on its own: it needs an extra decent gloss to combat the dryness, and even then I can feel a tightening sensation for a long while after use.

On my cheeks, the colour showed up better with less product, but I couldn't get an even application - I remember having this issue with the first tube too. I also didn't like the colour and found it looked super unnatural and clownish, so it's not a good shade for me.

In sum, this is a bad product and I don't recommend it. I was surprised to read that it's apparently one of ModelCo's best-sellers: if that's true, people must be having a lot more luck with it than I have!

Avoid.

I feel the way in which the product is presented is just bang on but I feel a little emphasis still needs to be given on the lip care concern solving part.
