Life Basics Makeup Blender Sponge - review

I bought this sponge on sale for the grand total of $2.50, and given that at full-price it only costs $4.95, I wasn't expecting it to be any good.
However I'm pleased to say that it's a great little sponge that does exactly what I need it to do, and I plan to buy a bundle of these shortly to keep in back-up because sponges are generally expensive and this one's cheap so I can't go past it. More on that below.
Life Basics claims/product details:
- Especially designed to make foundation application easier and give a smooth, perfectly blended finish
- With a pointed end to reach those hard-to-blend areas such as around the nose and eyes, and a larger, round end for areas such as the cheeks and forehead, it can also be used to apply primer, powder or blush
- Use this soft and gentle sponge wet or dry to seamlessly apply and blend out your favourite foundation, BB cream, tinted moisturiser or even facial sunscreen
- This blender sponge is made from latex-free sponge material, and is environmentally friendly, hypoallergenic and recyclable
- RRP $4.95 AUD for one sponge, but do shop around (it's currently available for $2.50 AUD)
There it is again:
Verdict
I've only used three of these blending sponges in my time because I prefer to use fingers for my foundation, partly because I prefer the finish and partly because sponges absorb and therefore waste too much product. However of the three I've used, this is the best and also the cheapest, so I'm not going to bother trying others from now on because I'm happy with this one.
It's a hot pink sponge with the classic teardrop shape that a lot of sponges have. It swells and expands on contact with water, which I appreciate because the last one I used didn't do that so it wasn't as soft and easy to use.
Do note that I don't use sponges like this for applying my foundation. What I do is apply my foundation and concealer with my fingers, then once they're mostly blended, I do the rest with this. Reason being, I don't want the sponge to suck up half my makeup and waste product, and I also find that sponges like this are great for doing a quick run over the face to ensure that any streaks are gone. I also like sponges for blending out my concealer, which is quite thick and takes some work to diffuse.
What I find is that this smooths out my makeup well and saves me a bit of time when it comes to getting into those hard-to-reach places (eg around my nose and in the corners of my eyes). It also feels nicely soft on the skin, so I like it for the eye area because this can be gentler than my fingers when I'm trying to blend out my concealer.
The other thing I like sponges for is removing a little bit of coverage if I've accidentally applied too much product. So if I'm blending out my foundation and feel like the coverage is too strong, then I'll go over my face with this and lift off a small amount of product so it looks more natural.
Overall I think this is a great little product and I recommend it. It's cheap, it works and it's easy to use. If you've been struggling to find a decent sponge that isn't overpriced, then I absolutely recommend this one.
Decent.
