I included this highlighter as part of Project Dent over a week ago, and I've now used it enough to review it.

Long story short, it's ok but it's not my favourite formula (it's too dry for starters), so I plan to wind up Project Dent shortly and send this product to a better home. More on that below.

Mecca claims/product details:

  • The award-winning, glow-bestowing powder that makes your complexion appear to glow from the inside out
  • Beauty comes from within but we'd never turn down an extra dose of instant radiance, especially when it comes in the form of this luxuriously buttery highlighting powder
  • A Mecca favourite, this makeup bag must-have is available in three shades of face-flattering glow to suit any complexion, complete with ultra-fine pigments to instantly revive lacklustre skin
  • RRP $48 AUD for the full-size

Verdict

While I don't mind this highlighter, it's not my favourite and I'm not going to keep it for a few reasons.

First, it's a dry, hard powder and I prefer my powders to be creamier. It's not so easy to pick this up with my brush, the texture doesn't feel nice and the product also looks dry on my already dry skin, which isn't unusual when powders are this dry in the pan. It looks especially dry when I try to build it, and for this reason I prefer not to use it on my eyes - which I'm not happy about because I love using highlighters on my eyes.

Second, it contains noticeable glitter. Sure, it's finely milled and it isn't super obvious on the skin, but I'm still aware of it and I can see it on my face when I step into the light. This means it's never going to look natural (glitter is a dead give-away), and that's not what I want.

Third, it emphasises texture on me. While it's not the worst I've found when it comes to emphasising texture, it definitely does that and my pores always look more noticeable when I wear this. I don't want my highlighters to do that, so it's not a keeper for that reason too.

The good news is that it's on the subtle side, so I don't need to be careful when I use this (with really pigmented highlighters, I need to use a super light touch with my brush). While that aspect suits me, I've seen others complain that it's not intense enough - so do test this before purchase if you're interested in it.

While I like the colour in theory, in practice it can look a little frosty on my light/medium to medium, yellow-based skin, and more golden highlighters typically suit me better.

Overall I don't hate this highlighter but it's not my favourite for the reasons mentioned and I don't plan to keep mine. Still, I can see why people love it because it is pretty - it just doesn't suit my personal needs.

Not for me.

The things you dislike about highlighter are exactly my complaints. Can i ask what you favorite highlighter is. I have yet to find one that looks ok on my dry skin.
