Suki Balancing Facial Oil - review
/
1 Comments
I only have two products left to review in this kit: this oil and the face mask.
(Note: I'd already written about the exfoliating cleanser before buying this kit: see review here.)
I like this oil better than the mask (which doesn't seem to do much) and I'll have to use the latter a few more times before writing about it because I've yet to see any beneficial impact from it, other than that my face temporarily looks a bit brighter afterwards. This lack of impact is a common problem I've found with masks; however the benefits of this oil are clear and it's definitely one I would consider buying - albeit in the version designed for dry skin, since that's my skin type most of the time.
Suki claims/product details:
- Formulated as your light, breathable solution for night when your body expels toxins, unhindered by heavy creams
- For anyone seeking light moisture and the calming effects of balancing every day
- Suki's non-clogging sebum equalising complex™ from jojoba, borage and hazelnut matches your skin’s own chemistry to balance oil production and address systemic skin imbalances, infections and the underlying causes of systemic skin problems without irritating the skin
- Ideal for combo to oily and overly active problem skin types
- Addresses all types of blemishing, oily t-zone build up, clogging, irritations, oil imbalances, redness, swelling and spots
- Helps calm skin, reducing the appearance of blemishing and clarifying the complexion, giving you the appearance of balanced, healthy skin (pH, bacteria and sebum production)
- To use: gently and completely smooth one to two drops into face and décolleté after misting toner
- RRP $43.95 AUD for 15ml

Verdict
I'll quickly mention the smell of this product because I don't like it and I've seen a few other reviewers mention it too. It has that same chamomile/rotten fruit smell of the day lotion, but at least the smell isn't as overpowering as the Suki toner I recently reviewed. But of course it's all personal opinion and a few people have mentioned that they quite like the smell, so it mightn't bother you at all.
It's a very light, thin oil that absorbs quickly. A little goes a long way, and while my dry skin needs more than the recommended one to two drops, I don't need too much more than that and this little sample has lasted two weeks of twice-daily application - and there's still a third left. So while it's not cheap and the full size is only 15ml, that amount should last you for ages so it isn't bad value when you consider how long you'll have it (particularly if your skin is oily and you need less than I do).
What I love about this oil is that it's super hydrating without being greasy - indeed, I'd almost call it a dry oil - so if you have oily skin, this shouldn't exacerbate any oiliness. While my skin is dry, this is hydrating enough for me; and I've seen other reviewers who have oily skin say that this product helps manage oiliness, despite being an oil itself.
I've mentioned in my other reviews of this little kit that, when I bought it, I didn't realise it wasn't designed for my dry skin (it's for oily/combo skin - oops!), but happily the purchase ended up being a good 'error' because the kit has cleared up my hormonal blemishes in the space of two weeks. Pretty amazing!
My skin looks hydrated, plumped and fresh after using this, plus it feels soft and even. I leave it to sink in for a few minutes before applying makeup, and my skin is so smooth that makeup glides on like a dream and I end up using less of my base product, so that's a plus.
On top of that, before cracking open this kit I had some dry, red and flaky skin around my mouth/chin area (this often happens in the cooler months), and this oil has helped fix the issue. My face hasn't looked this good for a while and these products have had a lot to do with that - along with the fact that we're in Queensland at the moment and the warm weather has helped address the dry patches on my face.
On the claims I haven't touched on yet: I do think this oil has a calming and balancing effect; it doesn't clog pores and it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin; and it also addresses redness, swelling and spots. My skin does look healthier and clarified, and it also reduces my fine lines for a good few hours after application. It would probably reduce them for longer if I didn't apply makeup during the day, and my skin certainly does look less lined and also feels more hydrated in the morning if I've applied this at night.
In sum, I love this product and it's made me want to buy the oil that's designed for dry skin: I would pick the dry skin version because I'd probably need to use less of that than I do this one, and hopefully it would have a different smell.
Recommended, particularly if you have oily skin and don't like the idea of putting greasy oils on your face. It's also a great product for targeting blemishes.
