The Cosmetic Kitchen Powder Brush Large #24 - review

From memory I haven't reviewed a brush before and it's high time I did. I agree that you can never have too many brushes (and I don't have too many), particularly if you're lazy like me and don't want to wash them that often, preferring to use some for a week, then others the next week and so on, only washing them once a month instead of weekly.
I received this powder brush from Lust Have It ages ago: in fact, I received two of them by mistake and I was dumb enough to gift one to a friend - a decision I've regretted ever since because it's a useful brush and one I reach for often.
You can see in the above and below photos that there's a wider side and a smaller one, both of which come in handy for different purposes.
The Cosmetic Kitchen claims/product details:
- A 40mm multi purpose kabuki brush in large
- Certified vegan and cruelty free
- Made with super fine, high quality nylon and recycled timber handles
- This product is from the eco bamboo range (products can also be in the original range)
- RRP $22.50 AUD for one brush
- Available from The Cosmetic Kitchen website
Verdict
I reach for this brush often: what I love about it is that it's large enough to be used for mineral foundation, and small enough to be used for blush. If you're in a pinch, you can even flatten it with your fingers and use it for sweeping eyeshadow over the lid, or even for contouring.
Indeed, if I had to take one brush away with me, this might well be it because it can serve so many purposes due to its size and shape.
The bristles are soft but not too soft, and densely packed but not excessively so. If brushes are too soft or not well packed, it can be hard to apply powder with them and particularly hard to get a lighter coverage if that's what you're after (and I usually am). If the bristles are too hard, they're not much fun to put on your face and they can also kick up too much powder from the pan when you use them. This brush strikes the right balance and it's easy to use.
As mentioned earlier, I'm lazy and I don't like products that are hard to use, but happily this brush is pretty foolproof.
This is neither here nor there, but I don't like the look of this brush and it's probably the only thing I don't like about it. Something about the pale wood and silver combination looks a little cheap to me and I wouldn't display this brush, but of course that's all personal opinion.
The brush isn't cheap but it's certainly not the most expensive item on the market either and I think it's worth the dough. I've had it for over 18 months now and it's still going strong, so you'll get your money's worth from it and then some.
In short, I love this brush and recommend it.
