Estée Lauder Revitalizing Supreme Global Anti-aging Creme - review

I received this face cream in Marie Claire's Winter Edit of The Parcel (reviewed here).

Initially, I felt it was the most exciting item in a pretty hoh-hum box overall, but unfortunately after using it, I don't like it. It's meant to be hydrating but it dries my skin out.

Note: I wouldn't normally do a full review of a trial-sized product - purely because 5ml often isn't enough to really get a feel for something - but in this case it is.

This product claims immediate benefits (I don't get those) and the sample is large enough to know that I can't expect any cumulative effect over time: I think two weeks' use is ample time to know that this product isn't for me.

Estée Lauder claims/product details:
  • Experience the first creme with IntuiGen Technology™ that knows your skin's needs
  • A high-performance, multi-action moisturiser
  • Dramatically reduces the look of multiple signs of ageing: lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness, dullness and dehydration
  • Breakthrough IntuiGen Technology™ helps activate skin's own revitalisation; specifically addressing your unique anti-ageing needs all at once, revealing a younger and more beautiful look
  • Tested and proven: instantly, skin looks smoother, clearer, more radiant; in just four weeks, 92% of women showed significantly firmer skin
  • RRP $80 AUD for 30ml, but do shop around

Verdict

I normally like Estée Lauder skincare, but unfortunately I don't think much of this product.

It's a lightweight, gel-cream that isn't heavy or moisturising enough for my dry skin. It also comes in jar packaging, which doesn't matter so much for this trial size tub but it would for the full size because the contents are exposed to air every time you use it. I've also read that the ingredients in this product are light/air sensitive, so Estée Lauder should probably have considered that when designing the packaging!

The product has a faint, cream-like smell that's inoffensive and light. It also has a nice texture and it doesn't feel greasy or look shiny, but as mentioned, it doesn't feel like it has enough punch for my dry skin. I've been using this every day (and night) since I received it, and I need to apply a better moisturiser over the top each time because this doesn't hydrate me enough: if anything, I reckon it dehydrates my skin. This means I can't even use it during the day over makeup because it doesn't plump my skin or reduce my fine lines, so I really have no use for it.

On the product claims, my skin doesn't look instantly clearer, smoother and more radiant when I use this. It does look a touch more hydrated but no more than it would after using a cheapo cream from Priceline. I can't comment on the claim that my skin may look 'significantly firmer' in just four weeks (because the sample size won't last that long), but if I've noticed no difference in two weeks, I'm guessing that wouldn't happen for me anyway.

I've just had a look at makeupalley.com and only 55% of people would repurchase this, so obviously I'm not the only one who doesn't think much of it.

I'd avoid this, or at least test it before committing to the purchase. It's not worth the price tag and Estée Lauder has better products on offer if you're willing to fork out that much.
