Macro Lash Fibre and Mascara Kit - review

I received two of these fibre lash mascara kits in my Lust Have It Bridal Box ages ago.

While I went through the first kit not long after I bought the box, this back up has been sitting around for a year and it was definitely time to open and use it.

Fibre lash sets became all the rage a while back and many brands now produce them. This wasn't a brand I'd heard of at the time and I'm always up for trialling products from new brands, although I don't think this is your best option if you're after something like this because the kit is a little temperamental and the lash fibres are prone to shedding throughout the day and leaving you with fluff on your face. Not ideal.

Macro Lash claims/product details:
  • Amazing new lashes that simply brush right on
  • Realistic black, lash-like fibres add instant length to your own lashes
  • Instead of just coating lashes, Macro Lash brushes real lash-like fibres right onto your own lashes
  • Buildable formula adds extra length with every application
  • Super easy to apply and remove
  • Pack contains a fixing serum mascara and a separate lash extending fibre product
  • RRP $39.95 AUD, but do shop around

There's the brush above and below. It's a good brush in that I like the shape because it's not too thick and it's easy enough to coat your lashes pretty well with it.

Also, the formula of the fixing serum itself is quite good and I'm happy to use it on its own, without the fibres.

There's the fibre wand below. I think this part of the kit could have been better-designed because you wind up with so many fibres on the wand whenever you pull it out of the tube. Less would be better, and would mean less mistakes and less room for error.

Below are my bare lashes for reference:

There I am with one coat of the mascara, plus one coat of the fibres and a top coat of the mascara:

And again for good measure:

Verdict

This kit definitely does lengthen and thicken your lashes with the addition of the fibres. The fixing serum itself also lengthens/thickens, so you can just use that like a regular mascara and forgo the fibres if you can't be bothered with the extra step.

On the product claims: this does brush on extra lashes and it is reasonably easy to apply and remove them. The only application problem arises from the issue mentioned above - the fibre wand picks up too many fibres and makes for messy and sometimes fiddly application.

The kit also does add length and thickness with each application, although I personally stop at one application of the fibres because any more than this looks really unnatural. One coat looks natural enough, although I've used fibre products that look better than this one does and I wouldn't buy this one unless you can find it heavily discounted.

My major issue with this kit is that the black lash fibres have a tendency to shed throughout the day, leaving you with black fluffy bits around your eyes that you need to remove. I've discovered that if I use a different, 'normal' mascara as a top coat, the shedding issue isn't as bad - so maybe that's the solution to the problem.

If you're anything like me, you won't want to apply the lash fibres every day, so I'm glad that the fixing serum fares well as a mascara on its own. This means that you won't need to have two mascaras on the go at once because you can use this kit whether you apply the fibres or not - a good thing with mascara because you need to change it so frequently and having two open at once can be a waste since you'll need to turf them both within a few months and you won't have made best use of each tube.

All in all, this isn't a great product but it's one I will use - mainly without the fibres because I'm lazy and they're prone to shedding.
