Urban Skincare Co Awaken Hair Wash and Intense Conditioner - review
/

I've tried quite a few products from Urban Skincare Co now and some products are definitely better than others.
Not long ago I reviewed the black versions of Urban Skincare's shampoo and conditioner (see here), and while I didn't like the shampoo, I did like the conditioner.
Unfortunately neither of the white products agree with my hair and I'm glad they're only 100ml sizes because I'm looking forward to finishing them off and moving on to something else.
Earlier this week I reviewed the body cream from this set (see here), which I love. The body wash I can take or leave, but these two hair products aren't great and I can see why my husband didn't like them (I initially bought them for him).
Once I've reviewed each product in this pack individually, I'll do a round-up post on the set as a whole, just in case anyone's interested in the pack - rather than any particular product.
Urban Skincare Co claims/product details:
Shampoo
- Promotes a healthy scalp and hair
- Oligogeline® revitalises and strengthens brittle hair
- Trace elements of calcium and magnesium remineralise the scalp and help restore fullness and shine
- Vitamin E boosts oxygen supply by increasing blood circulation to the follicles, preventing premature thinning and greying of hair
- To use: apply a small amount onto wet hair; massage gently into scalp and hair; rinse thoroughly with warm water; follow with Intense Conditioner
- For normal or colour treated hair
- RRP $9.95 for 100ml
Conditioner
- Delivers optimal hydration by targeting dryness and locking in moisture where it’s needed most
- Gentle enough for daily use
- Vitamin E removes pollutants and restores shine and manageability to the follicles
- Oligogeline ® remineralises and smooths the shaft without leaving behind any heavy residue
- To use: apply a small amount onto damp hair and massage into scalp using fingertips; leave in for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly; for best results, use after Awaken Hair Wash
- For normal or colour treated hair
- RRP $9.95 for 100ml
Verdict - Awaken Hair Wash
Unfortunately I don't like this product at all. It doesn't clean well and I need three washes to get my hair feeling even close to clean, and even then it doesn't quite get there.
I've been trialling this for a month now and I got annoyed with the product pretty quickly, so resorted to doing one hair wash with this and a second with a better shampoo, but on the last two occasions I dedicated myself to using only this shampoo. The result is dull, lacklustre hair that doesn't feel clean, needs to be washed more frequently, and feels coated. Not what you want from a shampoo!
On the product claims, as far as I'm concerned this doesn't meet any of them. It's unfortunate because Urban Skincare produces such great body creams, but I'd steer clear of the shampoo section.
Both this and the black version of the shampoo (for fine or oily hair) aren't great but I think this is worse than the other one.
The conditioner from the black range (for fine or oily hair) is actually quite nice, but this one's terrible - and I have dry hair, so that doesn't make sense!
On the first few washes I used a normal amount of conditioner but found it wasn't hydrating my hair at all, so lately I've been using a ridiculously large amount, and while that seems to help things, this still isn't a great product.
My issues with it are: it's not nourishing enough (so my hair needs oil and other treatments after washing); I need a truckload of it to get any effect; and it leaves my hair dull, dry and frizzy.
I'm annoyed about these products because the body creams I've tried from Urban Skincare are so good that I was expecting more from the rest of the range in general.
In sum
If you're interested in trying something from Urban Skincare, I would definitely stick to the body products - or at least grab one of the trial sized packs so you can test the haircare to see if it works for you.
I'm looking forward to finishing these off, I must say. So's my hair!
Low marks from me.
