Andalou Lemon Sugar Facial Scrub - review

I bought this because it sounds very much like a Suki scrub that I've been obsessed with for years (I've reviewed that here), and while I do suspect that Andalou tried to mimic it (wouldn't be the first time they've duped another product), they're not the same and I definitely prefer the Suki.

Still, this one's ok and I don't mind using it, it's just that it's not perfect and I don't need it in my collection. For this reason I'll likely put it on my Project Pan list, just to encourage myself to get through it, and then I may well buy the Suki again.

Andalou claims/product details:

  • Fruit stem cell complex with argan stem cells, manuka honey and organic cane sugar
  • Gently exfoliates dull, dry surface cells for improved tone and texture
  • Meyer lemon refreshes and revitalises for a bright, balanced complexion
  • For oily and overactive skin
  • To use: gently massage small amount of scrub on damp face and neck; avoid eye and lip area; rinse clean with cool water
  • RRP $22.99 AUD for 50g, but do shop around

Verdict

I think this is a nice product and I can see why people like it, but of course I've been tainted by Suki's version and this one just isn't as good. Still, it's nice to use and I'll be happy enough to get through it, although it's given me a Suki craving so I'll have to get my hands on that one again soon.

It's a pale yellow scrub that smells like lemon and sugar. It's different from Suki's offering in that there are less grains and more of the smooth 'carrier' product in this one, and I also think the grains in this are smaller.

I use mine perhaps twice a week and I always notice that there isn't as much scrubby matter in this as I would like. Yes it's reasonably effective, but I need to use more than usual to ensure there's enough scrubby matter on my face to do the job, which of course means I'll get through it faster.

I like that it doesn't feel too harsh on my skin and I also like the scent. Yes the Suki version smells stronger and more delicious, but this is still nice and I enjoy using it.

My main issue with this product, however, is how waxy it is. I find that I can never wash it off properly because it leaves a waxy coating on my skin that only another cleanser or a good toner will remove (I can't just remove it with water or a face cloth). While this mightn't bother some, it does bother me because I don't want wax left on my skin that may interfere with my skincare's ability to absorb (and unfortunately it does do that if I don't wash it off properly).

After use my skin does feel a little smoother and look a little brighter, but I'm always aware of the waxiness and I'm never quite sure that I've removed it all. I'll be interested to see if anyone else has similar comments.

Overall I think this is a good product that generally meets its claims, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Suki and the waxy residue bothers me. Still, it's reasonably priced (especially if you wait for a 40 per cent off sale) so it's not all bad and I do enjoy using it.

Nice but not my favourite.
