Andalou Naturals BioActive 8 Berry Fruit Enzyme Mask - review

As you may know, I tried a couple of products from Andalou last year and loved them so much that I bought a few more items when the brand was next 40% off at Priceline.

Two of those products were face masks, and while I really love the glycolic mask from these guys (I've reviewed that here), this one hasn't grabbed me and it doesn't do much for my skin - although it's not awful and I'll certainly continue to use it until it's gone. More on that below.

Andalou claims/product details:

  • For dry/very dry skin
  • Fruit stem cells, resveratrol CoQ10 and bioactive 8 berry complex help support dermal vitality
  • Fruit juice enzymes gently dissolve and exfoliate dull, dry surface cells to reveal skin's natural glow and a rejuvenated complexion
  • To use: apply evenly to clean, dry or damp skin; leave for 10-20 minutes; rinse with cool water
  • RRP $19.99 AUD for 50g, but do wait for specials

Verdict

I so wanted to love this mask because it sounds promising and it's had some great reviews (see eg beautyheaven's website), but unfortunately it doesn't do much for me so I wouldn't buy it again.

It's a berry-coloured mask that smells like fresh berries. It's quite a sweet, strong smell but it's still natural so I don't mind putting it on my face, and I can certainly see why some people like it for the scent alone.

In texture it's like a thick gel, but it thins out on application so you don't need to use too much each time. It feels nice, cooling and soothing when applied, but it's also one of those masks that doesn't feel like it's doing a hell of a lot once I've got it on.

Indeed, when it comes to washing the product off, I can barely notice any change in my skin. Perhaps it feels a little more hydrated and perhaps it looks a little brighter, but I think I'm reaching here and I don't notice much change at all.

I've had a look at some of the positive reviews to see what others are saying about this product, and they've generally mentioned that it's hydrating and also has an exfoliating, resurfacing effect. While yes I think it's a little hydrating, I don't see the exfoliation or resurfacing at all. Perhaps that's because I use quite strong AHA products often, so there's not much left for a gentle product like this to deal with. Or perhaps it just doesn't gel with my skin.

Overall I think this product is ok, but it doesn't do much for me so I wouldn't recommend it or buy it again. Yes it's a little moisturising but I wouldn't buy it for that because the effect isn't huge, and any exfoliating or resurfacing effect that others speak of is lost on my skin - perhaps it's too gentle for me, and my skin is used to stronger products.

Doesn't do enough for me.
