BareMinerals Smart Combination Smoothing Lightweight Emulsion - review

I unboxed this BareMinerals skincare kit a few days ago (see here), but it took me so long to get the unboxing post up that I'm now at the point where I'm ready to review all the products.

Yesterday I reviewed the cleanser (see here) and I'm back today to review this moisturiser, and note that I've already reviewed the serum (see here) because I received that in another kit.

Now unfortunately this moisturiser is no longer available from Mecca, and I say unfortunately because I've been enjoying mine and it's a product I would use again.

What I like about it is that it's lightweight while still being hydrating enough for my dry skin, and I can see it working for a lot of different skin types because it nourishes my face without clogging pores. More on that below.

BareMinerals claims/product details:

  • A lightweight, balancing emulsion for powerful oil-free hydration and smooth, refined skin
  • Ideal for normal to combination skin types, this moisturising emulsion effectively delivers optimal hydration for a flawless, shine-free complexion
  • Powered by Intuitive Mineral Moisture technology and enriched with peptides, ceramides and amino acids, skin is left balanced, softened and refined
  • St John's Wort acts as a protectant to keep your complexion radiant and resilient
  • Aids in moisture retention and diminishing fine lines, keeping your skin ultra smooth and supple
  • RRP $56 AUD for 50ml

Verdict

I'm really enjoying this moisturiser and I'm sad that it's no longer available at Mecca because it's one that I like enough to buy again. Perhaps it wasn't selling well.

It's a thin, runny product that's more like a serum/lotion hybrid in texture, and it applies and spreads well. It has a light, perfume-like scent and fragrance is indeed on the list of ingredients (albeit towards the end of the list), so that's something to be aware of if you don't like perfume in your skincare.

I've been using mine every morning for the past two months and I really like how it feels on my skin. It's cooling and soothing when applied, and there's something about the texture that's almost a little oily so it's no surprise that it's hydrating and nourishing enough for my dry skin - although it's summer now so it mightn't be quite enough in the cooler months when my skin's at its driest.

After use my skin feels soft, smooth and hydrated, and the product has a slightly tacky finish that adds some radiance and also works well under makeup because it helps things adhere. While normally I'm suspicious of products with a tacky finish because they often coat the skin (rather than sinking in and nourishing it), most of this product does absorb and moisturise so I don't mind the finish in this case.

On the claims: yes it's lightweight and balancing; yes it hydrates the skin but no it doesn't give you a shine-free complexion (as mentioned, it adds some radiance to my skin); yes it softens the skin and leaves it feeling more supple; and yes I think it helps my skin retain moisture too.

Overall I think this is a great little moisturiser that generally meets its claims and I'll be sad to finish mine. It's hydrating while still being lightweight and it doesn't clog pores, so it's been perfect for my dry skin over the warmer months.

Worth trying.
