Andalou Naturals Coconut Water Eye Lift Cream - review

As you may know, I've been cycling through a bunch of Andalou products over the past year after discovering a few items from the brand that I love.

While I do enjoy many Andalou products, this is the second eye cream I've tried from these guys and I haven't liked either of them - so I'll probably avoid the eye creams for now. Still, they're not awful and they do work for some: it's just that I'm in my late 30s and have dry skin, so I need something with more punch.

Andalou claims/product details:

  • This delicate eye cream instantly hydrates for a plumping and lifting effect, and a more youthful appearance
  • Skin-friendly enzymes, vitamin c and coconut water electrolytes brighten and smooth skin's appearance
  • AquaCacteen (derived from prickly pear cactus) ensures a hydrating, nourishing formula that leaves skin smooth and firm
  • Made in the USA with a minimum of 70% certified organic ingredients
  • Dermatologist-tested, certified GMO free, vegan, certified cruelty free, certified gluten free
  • FSC certified and recyclable packing used
  • For parched/depleted skin
  • To use: am and pm, apply to clean skin
  • RRP $25.99 AUD for 18g, but do shop around (I bought mine at half-price)

Verdict

This product isn't awful but it hasn't done anything for me and it's nowhere near hydrating enough for my dry skin, so I'm looking forward to finishing it and moving on to something else.

It's a thin, odourless product that feels like a gel in texture, and it spreads and applies well. Note that I need to use more of this than I do regular eye creams because it's not very concentrated, so I need to use enough to ensure that my whole eye area is covered. This means it's not good value on a price-per-use basis.

To start with I was using this twice-daily by itself as my only eye product, but I found that within three days, my eye area had dried out and become more wrinkly. My skin also felt more uncomfortable and I looked older (especially when I tried applying eyeshadow), so I had to introduce an eye cream over the top to manage that issue.

After testing it for a few weeks, I sent it to the overnight spot and I'm now using it as a 'booster' to lay down a few hours after my normal eye cream before I go to bed. It's not really performing any function here, although I suppose I can say that it does leave a slight coating on the skin so perhaps it's helping to seal in my other products.

On the claims: no it doesn't plump or lift my eye area; no it's not nourishing or hydrating enough for my dry skin; no it doesn't brighten or smooth my eye area; and no it doesn't give my eyes a more youthful appearance.

Overall I don't like this eye cream and I can't recommend it. It hasn't done anything for me and it's not hydrating enough to use on its own, and it's also worth noting that plenty of other reviewers have made similar comments to mine (see eg the reviews on nourishedlife.com.au), so it's not just me and I personally would avoid this product.

Does nothing for me.
