Be a Bombshell Eyeshadow in Halo - review

I received this in a Violet Box ages ago and it's only recently that I decided to open it and give it a crack.
Since it's a single, smaller sized eyeshadow (1.5g), I also decided to include it in my Project Pan list (see my post on that here) and therefore see how long it would take to get through the product.
I've used it over the past week and feel able to give it a comprehensive review. Unfortunately it's not the best eyeshadow I've tried (and it's quite different in texture and quality from an eyeshadow quad I have from the same brand), so I'm wondering what's going on with this particular shadow: is it old or is this just a bad formulation?
Be a Bombshell claims/product details:
- Colour: shimmering pearl (pure pearly white with shimmer)
- Great for: accenting, base colour or highlighting
- Formula: a highly pigmented long lasting formula for all day wear
- RRP $17 for 1.5g
- Available from eg the Violet Box shop
Application: to use as an eyeliner, wet the tip of your brush and dip into the shadow, then apply on lash line. For base colours, blend shadow from lash line to browbone with a wide shadow brush, using gentle upward strokes. For accent colours, blend shade in the outer crease of your eye, gently working inward. Gently blend base and accent colours together using light, feathery strokes. For highlighting, gently brush under browbone.
Unfortunately this product doesn't only contain shimmer - it contains noticeable glitter chunks too (although not a truckload of them). I've blurred the finger image above so you can see this.
There's the shadow in focus above, and swatched/blended out below.
Used as a highlighter on the browbone, you can see the few glitter chunks there too. What you can't see (because I removed them - with some difficulty) are the glitter chunks that fell on the rest of my face when applying the product.
It would look pretty nice if you could just have the shimmer thing happening (as per below) and not wind up with glitter in various places!
Verdict
This could have been a really lovely product - the shimmer is nice and you can use it for a soft effect. I also like that it can (in theory) be used as a highlighter too.
My issue is this: why include the smattering of glitter bits in the product? If there were heaps of glitter, then fine - some lasses might be after that look. But what we have instead is a primarily shimmer product that leaves you with random glitter on your face, only enough to make it look like it's there by mistake.
As to formula, this is the softest (just opened) eyeshadow I've used. I'm not sure whether it's meant to be like that - as mentioned, the other Be a Bombshell quad I own isn't like that, and the brand's (excellent) blushes aren't like that either. This is why I'm wondering about the batch: in formula, the product I have reminds me of those eyeshadows you've had open for years (the ones ready to be turfed).
Anyhoo. The good news is that it's easy to apply and blends well. Its lasting power is reasonable and the pigment is good for a product as pale as this one.
It could have been quite a lovely product, if it wasn't for the random glitter bits and the over-soft formula.
Still, I'll get through it for Project Pan and we'll see how long it takes to finish an eyeshadow in the process.
