It's Skin Babyface Young Girl Gel Eyeliner in 02 Purple Black - review
/

I received this gel eyeliner in Memebox Special #37 Wake Up Makeup, and it's one of those products I'm bummed I opened because I'm really not going to use it much and, when I do use it, it'll be because I'm making myself do so rather than because I want to.
Should have known better really - I don't use black gel eyeliner these days (I prefer a more natural line), but I opened it because I was interested in the purple colour.
Anyhoo!
It's Skin claims/product details:
- When applied together, the purple and black create a younger-looking, lovelier effect on your eyes
- The cream-type texture allows it to glide onto skin smoothly in one easy application
- Application: use a gel eyeliner brush to apply the liner by filling in between your lashes thoroughly
- The product card says you can also apply it over or under your favourite lip products?! (might be an error, although whacky lip colours are certainly everywhere the moment)
- RRP $13 for 5.5g
The packaging of the eyeliner is quite cute (I'm talking about the plastic angel wings in the top photo), although I'm not sure that calling something 'young girl' is a good idea - doesn't sound very appealing to a 34-year-old ; )
See below swatch. It was hard to get an even line because the purple colour has all but dried out, and the black colour is almost too creamy.
And here we are on my eyes. You can see the black hasn't adhered as well to the lower waterline as I'd like, so it looks a bit patchy.
Below: it took a lot of work to get a purple line happening, considering how dry the product is. More on that in a tick.
Verdict
In a word?
Hpmh.
I don't know what's going on with this product, but the purple gel has all but dried out. I've looked at other blogs and others have noticed this too, so it could just be a formula problem (rather than me getting a dud product). On the other hand, the black is too creamy and you wind up with heaps of product on the brush if you're not careful.
What happens with the purple is that you get little dry blobs (like pilling on wool) when you apply it, because it's so dry. The black fares better but it's certainly not the best gel I've used: as mentioned above, it doesn't apply evenly and ends up looking patchy.
The purple is hard to apply and while the black is easy enough, it's just hard to get right. Both colours last well and I still have the lines on my wrist today, even though I took this photo yesterday. Having said this, as mentioned above, this doesn't adhere too well to the waterline - it's better on 'normal' skin.
The product is passable. I'm annoyed about the purple. Not sure what I'll do with it but I should probably send it to a better home quick smart - before the purple dries even more! - because I'm really not going to use it.
