Mario Badescu Glycolic Eye Cream - review

Slowly slowly I'm getting through the individual reviews of the products in my Mario Badescu Anti-ageing Kit. Once those are done I'll do a round-up post on the kit as a whole, in case anyone's had their eye on the set and wants to know what it's like.

This little eye cream is easily my favourite product in the set and I'm so glad I've had a chance to try it. It looks quite small in size but don't let that fool you: I've had it open for a good three weeks now and I've barely made a dent in it because a little goes a very long way. Also, I'm only using it as a night cream since it's quite heavy, which means it will last even longer.

Mario Badescu claims/product details:
  • For mature skin showing signs of wrinkles and sun damage
  • A skin smoothing, rich eye cream
  • High in antioxidant vitamin E and a blend of oils
  • Delivers a soft and more youthful looking eye area
  • To use: pat a small amount around and under eye area; best used overnight
  • RRP $26 AUD for 14g (see eg Beautybay)

Verdict

The first thing to note about this product is that it's quite heavy and greasy, so it won't suit everyone. I agree with the product's directions when they say that this cream is best used overnight, and I wouldn't use it during the day because it's slick and I don't think it would fare very well under makeup.

It's a thick white cream that almost has a balm-like texture because it's quite hard to the touch. Just the faintest dab is enough to cover the eye area, and I wouldn't overdo it with this product because it won't absorb and the excess will get wasted on your pillow.

It's super hydrating and my dry skin loves it, but as mentioned it does cross into greasy territory so a lot of people won't like the texture - particularly those who have oily skin. For this reason I recommend testing it first, or starting with a sampler kit like the anti-ageing one so you don't have to commit to the full size before knowing what it's like.

Do note, though, that while the product is greasy to start with, it does absorb well and any slick feeling is gone soon enough.

Mecca Maxima (where I bought the kit) doesn't sell this eye cream separately but you can pick it up from Beautybay for $26, and I may well do that once mine has run out because that's not expensive for an eye cream and I do really like this one.

On the product claims, I do think this cream meets them and I notice a difference in my eye area when I use it - my skin just looks happier and healthier overall. The cream doesn't have an impact on dark circles but it does make my eye area look smoother and feel more soft.

It's also worth noting that my eye area is sensitive, and this product hasn't caused any issues like redness or stinging etc.

Indeed, this is one of the best eye creams I've used in a while and it suits my skin well. I apply it overnight and wake to hydrated, plumped and soft skin.

All in all, this is a great product and I'm so glad I've found it. I've given it an HG tag because it does an amazing job and it's one of the cheapest eye creams I've used - particularly when considering how little I need to use each time. Woot woot!
