Batiste Dry Shampoo in Mamba - review

I've been burning through dry shampoo lately, and I think that's because I've recently started straightening my hair again (which I didn't have time to do until my son crossed the 2yo mark) - and if I've gone to the trouble of straightening it, then I'm going to extend the next wash for as long as I can.

Thankfully these Batiste dry shampoos do give me an extra couple of days between washes, and I suspect that I might even get a third day if it wasn't such hot, sweaty weather at the moment.

Batiste claims/product details:

  • When sprayed directly onto hair, the formulation penetrates hair shafts and absorbs dirt, grease and product build-up
  • A multi award-winning product and Australia's #1 dry shampoo brand
  • The perfect fix for great-looking hair, even between washes
  • Your hair will look clean and fresh, with added body and texture, no water required
  • The perfect way to extend your blow dry, free up time in the morning or give your hair a new lease on life
  • For all hair types
  • To use: for best results shake before use, spray into the roots with the nozzle 30cm from your hair and massage through with your fingertips; then brush and style
  • RRP $9.95 AUD for 200ml, but do shop around

Verdict

This is an excellent dry shampoo and I'm glad I've found the range. I'm also enjoying trying the different fragrances so I can find my favourite because I didn't like the first one I tested (Tropical: it was too sweet and too overpowering) so I wouldn't return to that particular scent.

The fragrance of this one is ok. It's described as a fruity scent, and I do get that but there's a bit of powdery musk underneath that smell that doesn't appeal to me personally. It's not a bad fragrance, but as with the other scents, it still smells like one of those cheap deodorant sprays I used to use in high school. Having said this, most scented dry shampoos smell like that to me, and thankfully the scent of this one does die down so I'm only aware of it if I sniff my hair after use.

What's great about this product is that it does exactly what it says it will do: it makes my hair look and feel cleaner and fresher, plus it adds body and texture to boot.

The other good news is that this product doesn't only work on hair that needs a wash: it also works if eg you've used a product that's left your hair feeling heavy and coated, so if I've used a shampoo/conditioner combo that's left a film, a few sprays of this will manage the issue well. While most dry shampoos can handle normal 'human' grease (sorry gross ; )), not all of them can handle product overload - so it's a huge plus in my books that this one can.

I've also discovered that it makes my hair easier to brush so I think it has a detangling effect too, plus it adds some shine and makes my hair feel softer. So basically it does everything that I want and need a dry shampoo to do. Hip hip hooray.

One thing to note is that, if you touch your hair after using this, your hands will feel a bit powdered - but that doesn't bother me because you can't see the stuff on your hair and it doesn't leave a white cast (provided you brush it through).

Overall this is great product and one I recommend. I'm looking forward to trying more scents from the range so I can find my favourite, but so far I still prefer Wild (reviewed here) over this one.

Love.
