Estée Lauder Pure Colour Long-lasting Lipstick in 88 Rubellite Shimmer - review and swatches

I received this lipstick as part of an Estée Lauder GWP a while back, and I was pleasantly surprised by its quality. It's a creamy lipstick that manages to wear remarkably well and it feels nice on the lips.

If only I had received it in a colour that I would get a lot of use from. While there's nothing wrong with this one - and indeed it's a nice shade that will suit many - it's just not for me.

There's the colour below. It's one of those hybrid shades that looks red in some lights and pink in others:

There it is swatched in natural light (it looks more red here):

And in direct sunlight (here the pink shows through more):

Estée Lauder claims/product details:
  • Colour so incredible, it leaves your lips wanting more
  • Maximised impact; magnified vibrancy, dimension and brilliance
  • True Vision™ technology takes ordinary colour and makes it extraordinary
  • You'll love the spectrum of fade-resistant, long-lasting shades, from sublime to vivid
  • Enriched with lip-loving ingredients, including apricot kernel, shea butter and murumuru butter that leave lips soft and creamy smooth
  • Each shade comes in the lasting, seductive finish that suits it best: satin creme or lustrous shimmer
  • RRP $45 AUD, but do shop around

Below I've taken a number of shots in different lights, so you can see how it changes colour depending on the light.

Above I'm wearing it in natural light, and below in sunlight.

Verdict

This is a great lipstick and I highly recommend it. I like the creamy texture, the feel on the lips, how it looks and also the lasting-power.

Indeed, the best thing about it is that it manages to last well despite how creamy it is - that's rare in my experience and I'm constantly surprised by how well this lipstick stays put, even after eating and drinking.

It's a sheer product that doesn't look too in-your-face, despite the bright colour. My husband hates bright red and pink lipsticks, but he's ok with this one because it somehow manages to look soft, even though it's exactly the kind of colour he doesn't like.

It has a nice touch of shimmer in it that doesn't look glittery on the lips, just gives them the right amount of shine. It's hydrating and doesn't emphasise lip lines - if anything it fills them in a little.

On the claims, it does leave your lips feeling soft and smooth, and it's definitely creamy. It's also fade-resistant and long-lasting, and the colour is vibrant without being too much.

All in all, this is a beautiful lipstick and I do love it, but I'll pass it on to my mum because it's more her colour than mine and I have far too many lipsticks as it is!

Lovely.
