Batiste XXL Volume Dry Shampoo - review

I received two travel-sized dry shampoos in my Priceline haircare gift-with-purchase and this is one of them.

One of the reasons I was happy to buy a few haircare products to make the $40 total that qualified me for the GWP was that I only had one dry shampoo on the go and it was half-finished, and I wanted a replacement. Plus I've seen many people rave about Batiste dry shampoos in the Facebook beauty groups I'm part of, so I was excited to try this one.

Unfortunately this product is shite, but it does help a little in making my hair look less greasy for a short time, so that's something. Hopefully the other dry shampoo I received in the GWP bag will fare better!

Verdict

As mentioned, this isn't the best dry shampoo I've used. So far the best is the Scandalous version (reviewed here), but note that I haven't tried a lot of dry shampoos in my time (maybe three or four), so I'm no expert.

The good thing about this one is that it has a pleasant scent: I smell apple pie. Another good thing is that it does decrease the oily look of my hair a bit, but unfortunately the good things about it stop there.

This one feels almost like hairspray on your hair, which isn't what most people want from a dry shampoo. My hair feels crunchy and hard after using it - sticky, dry and brittle as well - and it does nothing to make it feel soft and shiny (which is something I love about the Scandalous version, because that achieves both).

On top of that, it only manages to reduce the look of grease in my hair for a while, and my hair starts to look dirty again pretty quickly. I've even had to reapply it on the same day, which I've never had to do with dry shampoo before.

Of course, reapplying it makes your hair start to feel thick and powdery and overloaded with product, and it's a relief to wash the stuff out. Not what you want from a dry shampoo! Maybe the formula is like this because it is the 'XXL Volume' version, but there's volume and then there's looking like Grug (remember that dude from children's books?!), and this gives you the latter look. Oh dear.

Obviously I'm not a fan of this product and don't recommend it at all. I've heard the other Batiste dry shampoos are much better, so I'll be picking one of those up in future.

Avoid.
