L'Occitane Dry Skin Hand Cream in Shea Vanilla Bouquet - review

I received this hand cream in Marie Claire's Autumn Edit of The Parcel. I wasn't very excited to see it because I've used a ridiculous amount of these in my time - they're often included as GWPs with magazines - but at least it's a product that I'll use.

It's taken me a while to open it because I have quite a few hand creams on the go, but I recently finished the one in my handbag (or rather, my husband did), so I replaced it with this one because it's a good purse size.

L'Occitane claims/product details:
  • One of our best-selling shea butter hand creams is sold every three seconds around the world
  • Highly concentrated in shea butter (20%)
  • Helps protect, nourish and soften the hands
  • Leaves behind a sweet and captivating scent reminiscent of a vanilla flower
  • Super-creamy balm that penetrates quickly
  • Rich texture leaves hands soft and smooth with no oily traces
  • Can be applied as often as needed
  • RRP $13 for 30ml

Verdict

Look, there's nothing hugely wrong with this hand cream, it's just that I'm not excited by it at all. This may be in part because I've been through so many of them, but I think it's more than that because I've used quite a few hand creams from brands like MOR and I never get sick of those.

I think part of the issue for me with this hand cream is the scent: it's very faint and too vanilla-sweet for me. I prefer hand creams that smell better and really wake up your senses when you use them.

As for the formula, it's nourishing but I think it's a little greasy and it leaves behind a slick residue because it doesn't absorb as well and as quickly as other creams. It's unusual for me to say that a cream is too heavy for me because I love heavier creams (my skin tends towards dryness), but even as I write this I can feel my fingers slipping on the keyboard because they're greasy from applying this cream, and I put in on over ten minutes ago.

As for claims, yes it is super creamy and rich, but as mentioned I don't think it absorbs quickly and it does leave behind a greasy residue - at least on me. I think it does protect the hands, but I don't think it softens or nourishes them particularly well because the cream doesn't absorb as much as I would like it to.

I've had a look online and some people rave about this while others, like me, don't think it's that amazing and wonder why it's so popular. The product is fine but it's certainly not the best hand cream I've tried and, while I'll use it, I wouldn't buy it.

Ok.
