Villainess 'Dulces En Fuego' Smooch! Body Scrub - review
/
0 Comments
Let me start off by saying that I'm pretty sure my tub of Villainess Smooch was dried out when I received it. I bought it from the Violet Box shop and when I opened it, I found that it was so hard that I couldn't get any product out with my fingers and I actually have to use the metal lid to scrape out the product.
I've had a look at the reviews online (of which there aren't many) and people talk about this scrub being creamy (mine isn't) and mention that it can dry out if open too long. Mine has only been open two weeks but it was hard and crystallised from the beginning. So this review will of course be based on the product I received, which may not reflect what the product is actually like, if it's not meant to be as hard as mine is.
Having said this, I still really like this scrub and would buy it again despite the hard texture.
Plus I particularly like the funky packaging, the fact that the products aren't expensive and - most of all - the scents of the products. They're to die for: I almost want to eat them!
The Dulces En Fuego scent is described as 'musky bitter chocolate sweetened with vanilla and touches of citrus then positively inflamed with black pepper and nutmeg'. It's AMAZING.
I've copied the ingredients list from the Villainess website:
'Crystalline Aluminosilicate (Zeolite), Sucrose (Sugar), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Butter, Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Polysorbate 60, Prunus (Cherry) Kernel Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Fragrance, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Nibs, Cinnamomum Cassia (Cinnamon) Bark Powder, Piper Nigrum (Black Pepper) Powder'.
Villainess claims/product details:
- White sugar and spiced chocolate warming body scrub
- Releases a rush of warmth on impact to open pores and soothe skin
- Total body indulgence: warmth, exfoliation, moisture
- Raw chocolate and a smattering of spices for added deliciousness
- To use: just add water; apply generously to damp skin and massage gently; rinse with warm water to transform the Smooch into an emollient, light lotion
- Available from the Violet Box Shop
- Shelf-life after opening: one month
- Keep your Smooch dry during use and store in a cool place to extend shelf-life
- RRP $20AUD for 227g
First, I should say that I'm not a fan of any product that has such a short shelf-life. Using a product this size up in one month is a big ask, and the short shelf-life is probably why my scrub was dried out when I got it. You can see from the photos that my product is dark at the top and white at the bottom, so it also looks as though the ingredients have separated.
The fact that my product has dried out is probably why it doesn't meet some of the product claims: it doesn't warm and it doesn't 'transform into an emollient, light lotion' when I add water. I would really love to try another tub just to experience those things!
However despite the dry product, I still really like it - which definitely says something about the product. My tub is essentially a super delicious concoction of hard, dried sugar, which I'm totally enjoying using and which performs well as a body scrub. Once I chip out a small amount of product, I rub it on my body, rejoice in the smell that fills the shower (ha) and my skin feels refreshed and clean after use.
On the amazing smell, my husband had a sniff of this and his face looked like it does when I hand him a piece of coconut cake (he bloody loves coconut): his eyes light up and he looks like he wants to snuff the whole thing down in one hit.
I guess one thing to take from this review is that, despite the short shelf-life, this product is still usable and lovely after it has hardened. And if I still like it even though it has dried out, it must be extra good. Just imagine how much I would like it if the product were fresh!
Ticks from me. I'll definitely try to source a new one of these once my tub is empty.
