I received this polish ages ago in a subscription box (from memory it was Bellabox) and I'd totally forgotten about until I went through the makeup drawers earlier this month.
I hadn't worn it much because I'm not a huge fan of the colour. While I like it in theory, it doesn't work on my skintone for some reason and makes my hands look washed out. I think if you had pale or dark skin (not medium skin like mine), it might look better.
But aside from the colour issues, I reckon it's a decent polish and it's one of the few I've used that doesn't chip within an hour after application.
Opi claims/product details:
- Long wearing and fast drying
- The glass bottle is recyclable
- DBP, toluene and formaldehyde free
- 'Play Fair' is described as 'a light purple that’s playfully perfect'
- Shelf-life after opening: 24 months
- RRP $14.95AUD for 15ml
Above and below I've photographed it in slightly different lights (above is natural light and below is direct sunlight).
You can see that it changes a little in different lights: below it looks more pink and above it looks more purple.
Verdict
I don't often do nailpolish reviews, mainly because I don't own many of them and I'm not a huge nailpolish fan - the reason being that polishes always chip fast on me (it might be all the typing I do) and I can't be bothered doing my nails more than once a fortnight. Also, because I have a young baby, there's often not enough time for the polish to dry because I'm using my hands so much.
Anyhoo, on the polish: I reckon the formula is great. As mentioned, it's one of the few polishes I've used that doesn't chip straight away. I've had it on for three days now and only the ring fingers and thumbs have chipped a little, but the other fingers are still going strong.
It's nice and smooth to apply and dries reasonably quickly. The only issue I have with this particular colour (aside from the fact that it doesn't look great against my medium skin) is that it's very sheer, so you have to apply a lot to get the colour to show up. In the above photos I've applied three thick coats and you can still see the tips of my nails. For this reason I wouldn't buy any of the lighter colours in the range but would be more likely to try a darker one in the hope that it was more pigmented.
Those issues aside, this is a really decent polish and I recommend it - particularly if like me you struggle to find polishes that don't chip.
