Lee Stafford Poker Straight Flat Iron Protection Shine Mist - review

I received this in a Priceline baggie and had been saving it for when I finished the hair straightening product I'm currently using. Since that's not going to happen any time soon(!), I thought I'd give this a go and work out whether I wanted to keep it or send it to a better home.

It's only taken a few uses to know that I'll be passing this on to someone whose hair isn't as dry as mine. I don't think it's a horrendously bad product, I just think it's better suited to those with normal or oily hair - and who don't mind the strong smell.

Verdict

The first thing to note about this product is the smell: it's very strong and masculine - like cheap men's cologne - and it lingers long after you've used it. Any review I've read of this product has mentioned the smell, and most people don't like it. I personally don't like it either, and while I could probably see past it if I really loved this product, I don't so the smell is just another reason for me to avoid it.

The main thing I noticed about the effect of this product is that it leaves my hair feeling like I've sprayed it with hairspray - as in, crispy and dry - and this is the main reason why I won't be keeping it. I think if your hair didn't tend towards dryness, you mightn't notice this or care - but my hair needs all the moisture it can get and this product doesn't deliver that. This may be in part because it has a good deal of alcohol in it, which is drying.

As for the other results, I think it does help you achieve a 'poker straight' effect after straightening, and does do something towards managing frizz. Having said this, it's certainly not the best frizz-managing product I've used, so I don't think it's a great product on that front either.

As for the other product claims, it may well protect the hair because it coats it, but it doesn't feel like it cares for hair or provides long-lasting moisture due to the drying effect. It maybe makes hair a little more shiny but not much, so the product doesn't define itself in terms of any of the product claims, at least on my hair.

In sum, if you have normal or oily hair, you might really love this product because it does help straighten your hair and I imagine its drying effect might manage any grease-factor. Plus it's not that expensive.

But for those of us with dry hair, plenty of better and more nourishing products exist - and ones that don't have a dodgy smell that lingers until the next day.

Just ok.
