Meraki by Design Body Scrub in Strawberry & Coconut - review

We received this product in May's Violet Box (reviewed here). It took me a while to open it because I wanted to finish off another scrub first and also because it didn't come with instructions - either on the package or on Violet Box's product description card - and I couldn't be bothered looking them up.

Now that's lazy ; )

I've now given it a few goes and, while I do like it, the scent is far too sweet for me and I wouldn't buy this particular flavour for that reason alone.

Verdict

As mentioned above, I don't like the scent of this product - it's far too sweet for me - but I do quite like the product itself.

It's a dry product that starts to melt/disperse on contact with water (you can see that in the photo above).

It's quite rough and grainy, and I suspect that it may be too harsh for some people. However I generally prefer a rougher scrub, so the texture is ok by me.

What's different about it as compared to most body scrubs is that it's quite hydrating as well as exfoliating. I guess that's because it contains various oils that moisturise your skin while the sea salt is scrubbing it. Indeed, those lasses with normal to oily skin may find that they don't need to moisturise afterwards (or moisturise as much) because this scrub performs that function.

I do find dry scrubs like these a little harder to use as compared to cream versions, since I invariably lose quite a bit in the shower when I add water: the bits swim off my hand and also fall off the skin when it comes to applying the mixture. For this reason, I think scrubs like this one are much better-suited to using in the bath, but we don't have one so I unfortunately can't do that.

My skin does feel nicer and fresher after using it, and I'm enjoying using it - aside from my dislike of the product's smell. After a few uses, I've decided I'm going to use it as a hand and foot scrub only. I'm doing this because it's hydrating and those areas need more moisture, and also because I lose less product when rubbing this on my hands and feet (and of course use less each time), so this will make it last longer.

In sum, I like this but I wouldn't buy it: while it's nice, I have scrubs that I prefer, that require less product per application, and that don't have such a short shelf-life.
