Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub - review

I bought this body scrub a while ago because I needed to make up the value of a Mecca order to get free shipping, and the full-size only cost $14 AUD so I thought why not.

Long story short, it's ok but it has a weird texture that I'm not sure about so I wouldn't buy it again. Indeed, I haven't had a great run with Soap & Glory products overall so I now know that it's just not my brand. Annoying because the products are reasonably priced and a lot of people love them!

Soap & Glory claims/product details:

  • A scrub so delicious-smelling that you'll be tempted to eat it!
  • Say goodbye to dead, flaky skin with this superb body polisher
  • Made with smashed brown sugar and sweet lime, almond oil and macadamia grains
  • Exfoliates skin, leaving it feeling fresh and hydrated
  • RRP $14 AUD for 300ml

Verdict

This product is ok but I don't love it and I personally wouldn't recommend it. Mind you, it's had some great reviews online (see eg Mecca's website) so don't just take my word for it: it's definitely worth doing your own research.

It's a very goopy product that has a bizzare texture: it's kind of like sticky, gluey pudding, and I don't like how it feels on the skin.

I do however like the smell: it smells like lime and sugar, and there's something refreshing and uplifting about the scent that I enjoy.

Now this does contain plenty of scrubby matter (which is good), but I also find that the product works much more effectively when applied to dry skin (ie, without the water running in the shower). Reason being, most of the sugar grains dissolve on contact with water and many also fall off, so you're not going to get the best exfoliation if you apply this with the water running.

For this reason I prefer to apply it on dry or slightly damp skin, which means I have to turn the water off in the shower and that's bloody annoying. Give me a scrub that works well under the shower, please. Surely that's not too much to ask.

Note that I've read the more average reviews of this product on Mecca's website, and those reviews complain about the same thing: that is, it's not super effective because the grains tend to vanish immediately on contact with water, so do keep that in mind if you're after a more heavy-duty scrub.

Overall this isn't a bad product and there are things to like about it (eg the scent), but I don't like the gluey texture and I also don't find it to be super effective. Still, it's not expensive so it wasn't a huge loss.

Ok but not for me.
