Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelée in Honeymoon Honey - review

Every now and then you come across a product that stands out because it works for you on so many levels, and for me, this is one of those products.
If I didn't have enough blushes already I'd be buying this in other shades, and I'll definitely pick up another one once I've finished it (if I ever manage to do so!).
I might actually move it to my Project Pan list at some point because creams and gels don't last as long as powders, and I would like to use every last drop of this because I like it so much.
Josie Maran claims/product details:
- Contains skin-quenching coconut water and argan oil
- Dewy finish
- Gives you the natural look of a cream and the hydration and staying power of a gel
- Up to 14 hours of colour and hydration
- Available in six buildable shades
- Builds to a natural-looking flush
- Easy to apply using your fingers
- Contains 50% pure coconut water and 100% pure argan oil for blendability, plus vitamin E
- No parabens, sulfates or synthetic fragrances
- To use: blend in with your fingertips; you can also use a brush; build each shade to be as delicate or vibrant as you want
- RRP $27AUD for 5.1g, but do shop around
Above I've swatched it lightly (top) and more heavily (bottom). It's a lovely, sheer product that gives a natural colour.
Above I've dunked my finger in so you can see more of the colour. It's definitely red-based but it's the brown that shows up on my cheeks (see below - and note I've put some on my lips too).
Verdict
I love this so much that I've given it an HG tag. As you may know, I don't do that very often. I think it's the first non-powder cheek product I've done this for.
There are so many things to love about this: it's so easy to apply (great for rushed makeup appliers like me) and blends like a dream; it's sheer and gives a really natural colour, so you can use it on those 'I'm not really wearing makeup' days or when you want to wear eg a bold lip and need a softer cheek; plus it's buildable so you can get a more vibrant colour if you want.
The other thing that stands out about this product is that it's long-lasting (so that claim is true). I usually throw my makeup on between my daughter's early morning feeds (around 6.30am), and my base is all but gone by 2pm but this product is still going strong. I don't normally need my makeup to be long-lasting because I'm not in the office at the moment, but I know some people look for durable products so do consider this for that reason alone.
It's also lightweight, fragrance-free and cruelty free, and I think it's good value for money because it will last a long time and it's certainly not the most expensive tint you'll find in the higher-end category. Plus it's a very travel-friendly little product so you can feel safe to chuck it in your handbag etc and it won't take up much room, nor will you risk breaking it as you might a powder product.
On top of all that, there's no reason you can't also use it as a lip tint - I certainly have!
Another thing to note is that Paula's Choice refers to this as 'one of the best cheek stains on the market' (I completely agree) and many online reviewers love these products, so I'm not the only one!
Five stars : )
