Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses Floral Toner - review

As you may know, I've been cycling through Andalou's products this year because I fell in love with a few items last year and wanted to try more from the range.

In particular I've been testing its toners because I get through toners quickly and these ones are generally decent, plus I've been able to pick them up for 50 percent off so they're not expensive (even at full price). This floral version is next on my list, and while I do enjoy it, it's not as good as my favourite coconut version (reviewed here) so I likely won't buy it again.

Andalou claims/product details:

  • Uses a unique 1000 Roses® Complex, rosewater and rose essential oil to hydrate, soothe and tone delicate, dry and sensitive skin
  • Also includes hyaluronic acid to assist in hydration and promote a plump, glowing complexion
  • Instantly refreshes and revitalises skin's delicate pH
  • Balances as pomegranate, rich in tannins and polyphenols, uplifts tone
  • Moisture-binding humectants, hyaluronic acid and aloe vera help revive for a flawless-looking complexion
  • Made in the USA with a minimum of 70% certified organic ingredients
  • Dermatologist tested, certified GMO free, vegan, certified cruelty free, certified gluten free
  • RRP $19.99 AUD for 178ml, but do shop around (I bought mine for $8)

Verdict

I think this product is fine, but it's not my favourite toner from Andalou and it's not as effective as the coconut version I've linked above so I wouldn't buy it again.

It's a standard fluid toner that comes in a bottle with a pump. The directions say to mist this over your face after cleansing, but I get more benefit from applying it to a cotton pad (I open the bottle and forget the pump to do this: less waste). Reason being, this helps remove that last layer of gunk from my face so it's more effective if I use it like this.

The product smells like roses and while I've never liked that particular scent, it's not strong so I can live with it. It's also a natural scent because the product doesn't contain artificial fragrance, so that's worth mentioning because that ingredient can be irritating to skin.

Do note that I've tried misting this over makeup, and while it does feel soothing and refreshing when used in this way, the spray isn't great for that and I get blotches that upset my makeup, leaving me with little holes in my foundation. So I don't recommend it for that, but I do recommend decanting it into another bottle with a finer mist if that's how you want to use it.

As for efficacy, while it does feel soothing on the skin and it's not drying, it's not as hydrating as the coconut version and it doesn't have the same firming/toning effect either - so although I enjoy using it, it doesn't have enough punch for me personally. It should suit sensitive skin though, so it's one to keep in mind if that's you.

On the claims: yes it soothes but no I don't think it tones well; yes it hydrates a little but not noticeably; no I don't think it promotes a plump, glowing complexion; and yes it refreshes but I don't think it's particularly revitalising.

Overall I think this toner is fine but it's not super effective so I wouldn't buy it again. I do however think it's a good option for sensitive skin, so it's worth testing if you need something very gentle.

Fine.
