Pai Echium & Argan Gentle Eye Cream - review

I wound up with two of these Pai sample eye creams a while ago, and there's enough in both tubes that I've been using the product twice-daily for almost two months now and I still haven't finished the second one.

While it's an ok product, it's not my favourite and it's not quite effective for me personally so I wouldn't buy it for myself. Still, if you're not in your late thirties and don't have dry skin, I'm sure something like this would be fine.

Pai claims/product details:

  • Ideal for those with sensitive skin, including those prone to very dry skin, rosacea and mild forms of eczema and dermatitis
  • Created with soothing argan oil, apricot kernel oil, thistle oil and shea butter
  • Beautifully rich in natural vitamins and omegas 3 and 6 to help keep the delicate skin around the eyes healthy, plump and smooth
  • Made in London in Pai's own in-house R&D lab and manufacturing facility
  • Certified organic and certified cruelty free
  • Vegan and gluten free
  • RRP $60 AUD for 15ml

Verdict

This is a good, simple eye cream that hydrates my dry eye area without weighing it down. While I prefer my eye cream from Antipodes (reviewed here) - which costs a lot less when you consider that it's twice the size of this one and you can often find it at 40 percent off - this is fine and I can see it working for a range of skin types.

It's a lightweight cream that spreads easily and absorbs well, and a little goes a long way so it's lasting me a while. It has a faint herbal scent that shouldn't bother most people, and I wasn't aware of the scent until I sniffed the tube just now.

If you read this blog you've probably heard me mention that I have an eye wrinkle on the puffy part of one of my hooded eyes. This wrinkle only intensifies when I'm using a bad eye cream, and it hasn't looked too bad while I've been using this - which tells me that it's just hydrating enough for my dry skin, although something richer would smooth out my eye area more effectively.

I should note however that nourishing the eye area is all this does, and it doesn't do so as well as eg my Antipodes eye cream so I would certainly opt for that over this one. It also doesn't do anything for my fine lines or wrinkles, nor does it brighten my eye area or plump my skin to make it appear more youthful. It's a one-trick pony kind of product (or at least it is in my experience), so that's something to keep in mind - especially when you consider the price-tag.

On the claims: yes it's ideal for those with sensitive skin; no I don't think it's good for those with very dry skin (it's only just ok for my dry skin); and no I don't think it keeps the skin around my eyes healthy, plump or smooth.

Overall I think this eye cream is fine, but I wouldn't buy it for the reasons mentioned because it doesn't do enough for me, especially given the price-tag. I think if your skin is sensitive but not too dry, and if you're younger than my 38, then you might enjoy this - but admittedly better products are available on the market that cost less than this so that's something to keep in mind.

Fine but not a keeper.
