Doucce Lip Definer in 463 Fresh Paprika - review

I received this product in March 2015's Violet Box (reviewed here). I was happy to get it because I don't own any lip liners (I just don't use them), so it was interesting to see whether I could convince myself to love them during this trial.

Perhaps with another product I could have, but I couldn't make this liner work for me - it's far too hard, to the point where it's almost unusable. I'm assuming that this is a formula issue and that I didn't just get a bung product.

Doucce claims/product details:
  • Instantly colour lips with rich pigments that give off a velvety matte finish
  • Lightweight, creamy colours help extend the wear of your lipstick
  • Colours are perfectly suited to match lipstick colours
  • Enhance the shape of your lips and give them perfect definition
  • Waterproof
  • Tip: use a lip brush to perfectly blend the lip definer's lines with your lipstick
  • RRP $29.95AUD

I've attempted to line my lips with this below. You can just see the outline, and it took me a while to get a visible line happening:

Below I've coloured in my lips with it. I had to add some gloss to be able to do this because the product is so dry that it would have taken me years to do the job.

Verdict

I'll be interested to see what others think of this pencil. Obviously I didn't like it due to the super-hard texture and for this reason I thought it was difficult to use.

I like the colour and it's a good match for the Doucce lipstick I received in the box (in the colour Champagne), but I won't be keeping it because it's so hard and almost hurts my lips when I try to apply it because of the pressure I have to use.

I'm not sure why, but it applies more easily on my arm. Maybe because the skin is harder there (lip skin is very thin) and so it's easier to use a heavy hand and get the liner to apply.

As for product claims, yes I think it gives a matte finish but it's definitely not creamy. I think it does enhance lip shape (of course, all liners do) and it is suited to the lipstick colour I received. I reckon it does help extend the wear of your lipstick, but I tend to use lipsticks that last well on their own anyway, so I don't need a liner for this reason.

In sum, I wouldn't recommend this product due to the hard texture. A pity! Hopefully I can send it to a better home.
