Neutrogena Alcohol-free Toner - review

I bought this a while ago on special but only recently cracked it open. As you may know I'm relatively new to the toner party (I never used to use them), so this is only the third toner I've tried - except for toning mists, of which I've used many.
While I don't hate this product, I also don't love it: it's nowhere near as good as the Nivea Daily Essentials Refreshing Toner that I'm in love with (reviewed here), and I'm looking forward to going back to the Nivea version once this one's done.
Neutrogena claims/product details:
- Specially formulated to provide clean, refreshing toning without the harsh and drying effects of alcohol
- Will not strip your skin of its own natural moisturisers
- Special mild purifiers gently remove impurities and recondition your skin, making it feel fresh, clean and soft
- Formula prevents skin irritation, tightness, stinging and drying
- Formulated with emollients and vitamin B5 to help condition the skin
- Hypo-allergenic and dermatologist tested
- RRP $10.99 for 150ml
Verdict
This product is a bit meh for me. While it's a good product in theory because my skin tends towards dryness and sensitivity and this doesn't irritate my face, I think it's probably too gentle for me. I don't get that wonderful refreshed feeling after using it like I do with the Nivea toner mentioned above, so while there's nothing hugely wrong with it, the enjoyment factor just isn't there.
It seems to clean reasonably well because there's always a bit of leftover grime that comes off on the makeup pad when I use it, but I don't think it cleans as well as other products. I've noticed that sometimes I need to tone twice with this product, and there's always more gunk on the second makeup pad. I don't find this with other products.
It has a faint, pleasant smell (kind of icy and fresh) and I do think that it's not drying, so that claim is true. Also true is the claim that it doesn't sting, irritate or cause tightness. But I don't think it tones very well and it's neither refreshing nor conditioning - at least on my skin.
An ok product, I just don't love it. There really isn't anything else to say about it because it doesn't stand out in any particularly good or bad way.
