Alpha-H Absolute Eye Cream SPF 15 - review
/
0 Comments
I bought this eye cream last year because I was on the search for a great eye cream that didn't cost the earth, and when Alpha-H released a new one I had to try it. Alpha-H is one of my favourite skincare brands of all time and I was certain the company would do a good one.
Although I've had this product open for months now, it's taken me some time to write this review. If I don't know how I feel about a product straight away, that normally means it's neither really good nor really bad - but in this case I wanted to have a break from the product after using it for six weeks so I could see how my skin reacted when I stopped and started it again.
The break was extra useful: I was able to compare this product to a couple of other eye creams I had floating around, and I definitely like this one better (and better than I first thought).
Alpha-H claims/product details:
- The next generation of eye creams is here
- A lightweight, innovative blend of peptides, antioxidants and UV filters
- Helps tackle the signs of ageing
- Firms and protects the delicate eye area from environmental aggressors
- Cooling applicator assists with reducing dark circles and puffiness
- Helps make your eyes look refreshed and more youthful
- Addresses dehydration, fine lines and wrinkles
- Non-greasy and non-sticky feel
- Dermatologist tested
- For all skin types
- RRP $66 AUD for 20ml, but do shop around (I paid about $50)
Verdict
I love Alpha-H and this is another great product from the brand.
It's one of those products that has grown on me over time: at first I thought it was ok but I now think it's a lot better than many eye creams I've tried over the past couple of years - and while it isn't cheap, it's certainly not super expensive either. Plus you get 20ml instead of the standard 15ml (as with most eye creams), so I think it's good value and you can always find it on special somewhere.
The product is a light cream with a slight tint that doesn't show up on the skin, but helps brighten the eye area a little. It sinks in beautifully and it's deceptively nourishing: while it is lightweight, I do notice the tiniest amount of oiliness to it that isn't greasy but does help with hydration so it's great for dehydrated eyes like mine.
Having said this, I find it's best for day because it's not enough for my dry skin at night - I need something extra heavy for night use, and I don't want something with SPF in the evening - but it's a great product to wear under makeup because it makes the area smooth and soft.
The SPF is a bonus and I don't see enough sun protection in eye creams, so I'm pleased this product has you covered (although I would prefer it if the SPF were a little higher, but I guess you can't have it all).
On the product claims: yes it's lightweight and non-greasy/non-sticky; yes it refreshes and protects the eye area; and yes it helps with dehydrated skin. I haven't noticed anything more than a temporary effect on fine lines and wrinkles, but it does juice up the eye area for a while after application.
I don't use the applicator anymore and it's not the most cooling one I've tried (metal roller balls tend to be the most soothing, in my experience), and while I don't notice any effect from the applicator in terms of reducing dark circles and puffiness, I never do. So it might work for some but my eyes don't respond to anything except massage and sleeping on a high pillow when it comes to puff and darkness.
I recommend this cream if you're after a light, hydrating product for day use; and I prefer it to Alpha-H's eye gel (I've reviewed that here), although I would love to see a heavy duty eye cream from these guys for night. Fingers crossed Alpha-H will release one.
Overall, this is a good product that doesn't cost the earth. Definitely worth testing.
