little white truths

After I've drafted a review of a product, I like to look up what others have said about it online - just to see whether my feelings on it are the same as those of others. 

This is useful for all sorts of reasons: eg if I've found something that hasn't worked for my dry skin, I might see that people with oily skin love it, so it's worth mentioning that in my review for those who don't have the same skin type as mine.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any reviews of this gloss - not even those little comments that often appear on retailers' websites - so I can't let you know whether anyone feels differently about it than I do. Guess you're stuck with my comments for now! ; )

Verdict

I like everything about this product except for the lack of pigment. I was expecting something that gave my lips the colour you see in tube, but unfortunately it's a very sheer gloss that doesn't show up well on me at all.

In the above photos I've really slathered the stuff on so you can see it, but I wouldn't wear it that thickly (and it would transfer anyway, if I did), so the pigment is even less than what you can see above. If you're fair-skinned and don't have much pigment in your lips, this colour might do more for you - but for most people I reckon this wouldn't have enough punch.

Pigment issues aside, this is a great product in terms of formula, which is something I've come to expect from Bodyography: I've never been disappointed by the way the brand's products perform. Indeed, I'm surprised these guys aren't more popular in the blogosphere - everything I've tried from the brand has been a pleasure to use and far outperforms many more expensive products on the market.

In terms of claims: yes it's moisturising, non tacky and non sticky; yes it's nourishing while still being lightweight; yes it lasts longer than many other glosses I've found; and yes it's shiny and has a dulce de leche scent (which isn't strong so it's not too much). 

The only claim I reckon it doesn't meet is of course the 'highly pigmented' one. This isn't a pigmented product, so if that's what you're after I wouldn't recommend this gloss. It may be that other shades in the range are more pigmented, but this is the only one I've tried so I can't comment on those.

Aside from that, this is one of the nicest glosses I've tried in terms of hydration and feel on the lips, and it does last surprisingly long for a product of this nature (so many glosses transfer in a heartbeat).

Overall, I don't think it's worth the $30 AUD pricetag - especially given the pigment issues - but it is a beautiful product and one I'll happily use.
