Estée Lauder Take it Away Makeup Remover Lotion - review

I received this makeup remover as part of a gift with purchase and, so far, it's the best item from the gift.
This is because it's one of the only makeup removers I've ever tried that successfully removes mascara. Hallelujah!
So many products I've tested recently have failed to dissolve eye makeup (whether waterproof or not), and I'd begun to feel that I'd never find one. I'm thrilled that I have, and I want to ration this product now because I don't want to finish it any time soon. Damn that it's a travel size!
Estée Lauder claims/product details:
- Quickly and gently removes all makeup, even long-wear and waterproof formulas
- Unique water-based formula refreshes with a crisp citrus scent
- Rinses away easily and leaves skin feeling soft and smooth with no greasy afterfeel or oily residue
- For all skin types
- Dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested
- To use: apply to dry skin and massage well; rinse or tissue off; follow with the rest of your skincare regimen
- RRP $50 AUD for 200ml
Verdict
Thank god for products that actually do what they say they will!
If you read this blog, you may know that I've reviewed quite a few makeup removers recently and NONE of them has been able to shift tougher eye makeup like liner and waterproof mascara. This one does. Huzzah.
It's a white cream with a faint scent - I smell men's cologne, not citrus as claimed - and it's not unpleasant. I like the light, thin consistency and you only need a little to get the job done so the tube should last a good while. As claimed, it's not oily and it doesn't leave a greasy residue.
You apply it to dry skin, and it quickly dissolves your makeup with very little effort. It feels like makeup just melts off your face with only a small amount of rubbing from you.
Once applied, I feel a very slight tingling and cooling sensation that I like because it's refreshing. I've seen a couple of reviewers say that they don't like this effect, so if you have super sensitive skin I recommend testing this product before committing to the full size.
One thing about the usage instructions: I would use a wet makeup pad (rather than a dry one or a tissue as suggested) to remove this lotion because I think dry products are a little rough on the skin - particularly when you don't wet your face first - and I also think plain water isn't as effective as a wet makeup pad in removing the gunk that this lotion has shifted. That's all personal choice of course, but it's worth making the comment.
I've had a look online and the reviews of this product are generally very good. I also saw a couple of lasses say that they use this product to fix up any mistakes when applying their makeup, so I'll definitely be giving that a go since I often accidentally get mascara where I don't want to (my eyes are hooded) and I need something I can chuck on the end of a cotton bud to fix any black splotches.
All in all, this is a great product that lives up to its claims. I'm not thrilled about the price tag - despite that the 200ml bottle should last for ages - because I don't like spending that much money on things like makeup remover (since unlike eg moisturiser, it gets washed off anyway).
Aside from that, I can't fault this product. Woo!
