Lancome Bi-Facil Non-Oily Instant Eye Makeup Remover - review

Since I used to buy Lancome skincare and nothing else, over time I've been through so many travel sized containers of this product that I could almost start my own skittles club with the empties.
The reason I've been through so many of these is that the product always seems to pop up in GWPs, and while I'm not thrilled to see it because I don't love it, I wouldn't knock it back either because it's not terrible.
It's been ages since I bought any Lancome skincare, and this particular bottle of the stuff fell in my lap because my sister doesn't want it. While my feelings on the product haven't changed (it's ok but not something I would buy), I'll certainly use it without complaint and I'm pleased to have the chance to review it.
Lancome claims/product details:
- Remove traces of the day with our beautifully simple eye makeup remover
- Suitable for even sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers
- Gently removes makeup including waterproof mascara
- Ophthalmologist tested
- For all skin types
- To use: shake bottle to activate the bi-phase formula; dampen a cotton pad until the pad turns blue; rest on your eyes for a few seconds, then gently sweep down to fully remove your eye makeup
- RRP $50 for 125ml
Verdict
Before writing this post I had a look at what others had to say about this product, and I was really surprised to see a lot of people rave about it and confirm that it removes waterproof mascara.
It does not!
I've tried so many times to get this to remove my mascara - even going so far as to completely soak the makeup pad and hold it over my eye for more than the recommended few seconds - and never once has it removed any scrap of mascara I've been wearing, and I've tried it on a few different mascaras (not all of them waterproof).
Just remembering back to previous bottles, the fact that this didn't do a good job on waterproof eye makeup (including eyeliner) is one of the reasons why I never thought much of this product. It does a good job of removing other eye makeup (and foundation etc, if you use it elsewhere), but it doesn't work when it comes to the tough stuff.
So I'm not sure why others have had more luck with this than I have: maybe my eyelashes are extra hard to clean?!?!?!
Obviously I can't give a high rating to an eye makeup remover that doesn't remove all eye makeup, so I don't recommend this product. I agree that it's gentle and fine for sensitive eyes, so those claims are at least true.
Another thing about this product: it's called 'non-oily' but it leaves a distinctly greasy film on my face when I use it. It mightn't be oil, but it's something very much like it and I need to give my face a good wash after use to remove the film (which I would do anyway, but just sayin').
In sum, this is a remarkably expensive product and it's not worth the price tag. Even if it did remove mascara, I'm still not sure it's worth the price tag - you can buy removers that do the same thing at a fraction of the price.
Save your pennies for something else : )
