ModelCo BB+ Cream in Medium - review and swatches

This product is currently on my Project Pan list and, after testing it again over the past couple of weeks, I almost made the decision to send it to a better home because it's a terrible product on me and in many ways I'm better off giving it to someone who'll actually use and enjoy it.

I have a few issues with it, the main ones being that the 'medium' shade isn't medium at all (more of an orangey tan) and also that the finish is too paint-like on me, so this product is not one I'll wear.

In the end I decided to keep it, mainly because it contains sunscreen so I'll be able to mix it with my facial sunscreen to make that last longer.

Plus mixing it will dilute the colour and change the finish, so I'll be able to use it throughout the day when I want to refresh my sunscreen and makeup by patting a little of the mixture over whatever I have on my face.

Above I've applied three patches: unblended on the left, partially blended in the middle, and blended out on the right.

Below I've blended the whole lot in. It does sheer out but it's far too dark for my medium skin (I wouldn't call this shade 'medium', it's more medium/dark) and the finish is too matte and unnatural for my tastes.

There's my bare face for reference:

There I am wearing one layer of product (definitely too dark for me):

Below I've mixed it with a BB that's far too pale for me to try and get the colour right, but for some reason this ModelCo BB doesn't pair well with other creams. It turns a weird, paint-like consistency and you can see that it looks like I'm wearing heavy-duty, matte foundation. Not what I want!

Verdict

Obviously I don't like this product. I'm annoyed about that because I read a few reviews of it online before picking it up via a beauty swap group on Facebook, and it looked like something that would work for me.

Aside from the bad colour, as mentioned I don't like the finish and find it really unnatural on my skin.

The strangest thing about it is what happens when you mix it with other products: I often mix bases that are too dark or too light so they'll get used, but for some reason I can't with this one because it changes consistency when I mix it with any other base. I've no idea why that happens, but it means I can't use it as it is.

The only way I'll be able to use it is by mixing it with sunscreen to dull down the colour and thin it out, and while that's not ideal, at least the product won't go to waste.

There's really not much else to say about this product - I don't like it and it's easily one of the worst BB creams I've ever used, if not the worst. If you've got your eye on it, I highly recommend testing it first because you mightn't like the colour or finish.

Low marks from me.
