Chulala Cleansing Lotion - review

This cleanser came in our Japanese edits from Maslow & Co (unboxed here) and I'm pleased to report that I really like it.
It's one of those products that I wasn't sure would fit into my routine when I received it, but turns out it's slotted in beautifully and I'll miss it when it's gone.
Might have to buy myself another one at some point.
Chulala claims/product details:
- So smooth, it feels like you’re cleaning your face with water
- The secret lies in the gentle yet powerful blend of natural enzymes and sea botanicals
- Coral water rich in calcium aids in healthy skin cell turnover
- Papain enzyme metabolises dirt and impurities
- Ginger leaf extract and the island's deep ocean water add moisture to plump and protect skin
- To use: press the pump 2 - 4 times to place lotion on a cotton pad and apply to the face, removing makeup and sebum; repeat until cotton pad is void of dirt; rinse off with cool or lukewarm water
- RRP $35 AUD
I like the packaging. There's something whimsical about the frosted plastic bottle and the design is simple but good-looking.
The product comes with a pump and you know me, I love a good pump to help control how much I'm using.
Verdict
This is a good product and I'm really enjoying it. There's something simple and complex about it at the same time, and I'm not sure I've ever used anything like it.
It's a clear product that looks and feels like water in texture, and it has a clean, fresh scent that I enjoy.
You dispense it onto a cotton pad and wipe it over your face to remove any gunk, and while I have tried it as a makeup remover (it works, but not on mascara), my preferred use for this is as a second cleanse: I don't like using my nicer products to remove makeup - I'd rather use a budget makeup remover for that and use the good stuff as skin-cleansers only.
This cleans your skin well. You can feel it doing that when you run the cotton pad over your face, but the proof is in the proverbial pudding and you can see the grime come away on the pad after use.
My face always feels beautifully clean after using this, but it's still a gentle cleanser that doesn't strip the skin. The product also has a toning and brightening effect, so my skin always looks healthier and a bit younger after use.
I prefer to use this in the evenings. I often apply a mask before my shower but before doing this, I like to make sure my skin is clean. So I'll remove my makeup with another product, then go in with this, then I'll apply my mask. But I do sometimes use it in the morning if I'm in a rush and need something that will help remove any trace of the cleansing balm I use before it.
I think this would be an excellent cleanser for those who are pressed for time in the mornings and just want something that works, and works quickly. Indeed, if the kids are playing up and I don't have time for my full routine, I'll often just use this. This is one of the reasons why I'll miss my bottle when it's gone (and sadly it almost is).
Probably my only gripe with the product is that it requires yet another makeup pad each day. I already go through two a day for toning, and this necessitates a third pad (four if you use it twice daily), so all of a sudden I'm going through a pack of thirty makeup pads in a week to ten days. That's more than I would like.
All in all, this is a great product and I'm really enjoying it. It's not often that I come across a skincare item from sub boxes that I would buy, but this may well be one of them and I'll be looking out for sales once my bottle is finished.
Lovely.
