OCC Lip Tar in Cha Cha - review
/
0 Comments
The fabled Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar was one of those products I'd wanted to try for ages. Finally I picked one up in the Bellabox shop in the colour Cha Cha, a light shade of (what a surprise) ORANGE.
The product arrived in a cute little zip pouch, complete with a brush and a set of instructions. Both have been helpful.
Note: when my lip tar arrived, the colour had separated from the clear gel base (so it looked like curdled milk), and my immediate thought was that I'd received an out-of-date product.
However I did some research and OCC's website explained that this occasionally happens if the lip tar has been stored in the same position for a long time. All you need to do is move it around a bit and then store it in a different position, and Bob's your uncle. OCC was right and my lip tar was all good. Yay to that : )
OCC claims/product details:
- Intense yet featherweight layer of lip colour
- Combines the longevity of a lipstick with the ease of application of a gloss
- Comes with a small, handy lip brush
- 100% vegan and cruelty-free
- A stunning new innovation in lip colour
- Goes on slick and moist; dries down to a satin finish
- Ultra-saturated in colour; contains an unprecedented amount of pigment - a little goes a very, very long way!
- RRP $19.95 for 8ml
- Available here
- Shelf-life of 12 months once opened
See above swatch on my hand and below photo with the product on my lips.
In the above picture the colour looks bright, while below it's gentler. I like that the colour isn't too in-your-face, and you can build it. Note that, as you can see below, it does sit in my lip lines a bit (and also clings to dry patches and loose skin) - so do make sure that your lips are super-buffed before application.
Verdict
While I like this product, it didn't blow my socks off as I was expecting it to. My major issue is that, as mentioned, it sits in ridges and dry patches - not all of which I can get rid of with extra buffing. I've found myself needing to apply a gloss over the top so you can't see the lines. It may be that I need to try it in another colour: sometimes different colours have different formulations, and I've often found that pale colours like this one don't fare as well.
Does it live up to its claims? Mostly. It definitely provides an intense but light pop of colour. It applies smoothly and does dry down to leave a stain. I'm not sure how good the longevity is - although, again, that may have something to do with my chosen colour (as in, you can't see the stain so well once the surface has come off on your coffee cup - but you might be able to with a brighter/deeper colour). Note that, indeed, a little does go a long way.
Would I repurchase? I would definitely buy another colour to see how that fared, particularly because it's not an expensive product and it will last for ages. Plus there's a great amount of awesome colours on offer. Might have to make my next purchase something in crazy purple!
Have you tried these? What did you think if so?
