ModelCo Party Proof Matte Lipstick in Coachella Crush - review
/
0 Comments
I received a ModelCo Party Proof Cream Lipstick in Incognito (a deep plum/oxblood colour) in my March 2014 Bellabox, and then bought the Splendourful colour (vibrant orange) in the Bellabox shop - not because I needed it, but because it was on sale and I needed to raise the order total to get free shipping (!).
I reviewed those products a while back (see my review here, and excuse the dodgy photos - I'd never done lip swatches before). I've now also picked up a Party Proof Matte Lipstick via the Facebook Bellabox Swap group in the colour Coachella Crush.
As a side note, I'm using Splendourful in my 'How long does it take to finish...?' bundle of posts, to see how long a lipstick lasts (see my initial post here) - just in case you're interested!
As mentioned previously, a lot of people don't like ModelCo, perhaps in part because ModelCo products seem to be a constant feature of the various Australian subscription boxes and we're all a bit over them.
I don't hate ModelCo products but I do think they tend to be overpriced for what they are: many cheaper, better products are available at your local pharmacy if you shop around and look out for discounts.
Now that's orange! The above wrist swatch is definitely true to colour : )
ModelCo claims/product details:
- High-impact colour that won't budge
- Super long-lasting, strong pigment lipstick in ultra-vibrant hues
- Matte, high-fashion colour finish
- Rich, non-drying formula
- Glides on effortlessly without drying, caking or flaking
- Kiss, drink and party proof to last all day and night
- White case with an inbuilt mirror
- Seven shades available
- RRP $17 for 3.8g
Note: don't be guided by the swatch of this colour on the Modelco website - there it looks a bit browner, pinker and duller. This is such a big bang orange when worn that it looks almost red.
See below lip shot, taken inside, natural light.
See what I mean about almost red? I love it - and red doesn't suit me very well, so it's nice to have an 'almost' colour that does : )
This swatch was taken outside in sunlight:
Verdict
First, this lipstick is not kiss proof, drink proof or party proof. It comes off on your coffee mug like any other lipstick I've tried (excepting Lime Crime's and Shanghai Suzy's).
Having said this, Coachella Crush does have better staying power than many other products. I think the matte formula (as opposed to the cream formulas of Splendourful and Incognito) is a better one: it has more lasting power and leaves a lovely stain behind once it fades.
Coachella Crush doesn't dry my lips out and, unlike many matte lipsticks, I don't need to wear a gloss over the top because it's comfortable to wear. It goes on smoothly and I'm completely in love with the colour. While it's not an everyday kind of shade, it's a really wonderful and wearable big bang orange.
In terms of ModelCo's other claims, this is definitely a vibrant shade with a good colour pay-off. I'd agree that there's no caking or flaking either.
As mentioned in my earlier post on Splendourful and Incognito, I don't like the white case (feels cheap/tacky) but I do like the in-built mirror, which is much handier than I thought it would be. Having said this, I don't really care about the quality of the case - I care about the quality of the product itself - so I'm more than happy to pay less for these and live with cheap packaging.
A good product for a good-value price. That makes me happy! While these aren't the best lipsticks on the market, I like them enough that I bought one and picked up a third via the FB swap group, so that says something.
Have you tried these lipsticks? If so, what did you think?
