Fun new things to play with 2018 #1

Hello and welcome to my first larger sample post for 2018.

As you may know, I do one of these every now and then just to make sure that I'm not getting overwhelmed by smaller items. I also like to have a break from my usual skincare occasionally and this is a great way to do it, plus I enjoy trying new things so I tend to do one of these posts whenever I'm getting bored.

Do note: I have contact dermatitis so I'm limited when it comes to what I can put on my face at the moment - meaning the products in this round have been chosen either because I can use them, or because I've used them before so I'm happy to put them on my neck/dec and leave my face free of any 'banned' ingredients.

As always I'll introduce each item now and then come back later on with mini reviews of everything. I'll also do individual reviews of anything that's large enough to warrant a full review, so stay tuned for those if you're interested.

Let's have a look.

Odacité Skincare Gt+L Radiance Effect, Ba+S Eye Contour and Po+R Hydration

These little vials of oil came from Maslow & Co and I wound up receiving them again in Maslow's last box. I've reviewed them here.

They're described as concentrated serums that target specific issues, and you add them to your usual skincare to 'super-charge' your products.

Now I'm not meant to be putting oil on my face at the moment but I can add the two facial serums to my moisturiser for my neck/dec, and I don't have the same restrictions for my eye area so I can add a drop of the eye product to my normal eye cream.

I don't mind these products but they do involve extra steps so I'll be happy to finish them off: who has the time?

Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector in 01 Rose

I've used one of these before in the same colour so I was happy to receive another one from Mum (she buys a lot of Clarins products so she often winds up with GWP minis that she won't use).

I didn't write a full review of the last one but I plan to with this one because I've previously finished one of these 1g samples, meaning I already have a good idea of what I think of the product.

I remember that it looks like a gloss but feels like a balm (as claimed), and it also leaves your lips feeling hydrated and soft (also as claimed). Plus it has a plumping effect and feels super nourishing. Looking forward!

Clarins Extra Firming Neck Cream and Super Restorative Night Cream

These also came from Mum.

The neck cream is supposed to preserve the softness, firmness and tone of the fragile neck area. It should help to reduce wrinkles, and plump and soothe the skin. While I'm not sure about the need for a separate neck cream, I'm glad that it's something I can use on my skin at the moment: I've had to put many things aside so I'm happy to have something different just for my neck.

The night cream should counteract the dullness, wrinkles, age spots and loss of elasticity caused by natural hormonal changes throughout the ageing process. Your skin should awaken vibrant, youthful-looking and refreshed. I haven't had much luck with Clarins skincare (I think it's mostly overpriced for what it is), but I'm happy to try this and see how it fares.

Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant

I have a full-sized one of these but I decided to open the smaller GWP one first: that way I've got more chance of finishing it by the time it comes to doing my updated skincare inventory post.

It's described as a highly active resurfacer that delivers your smoothest skin ever, and helps fight the biochemical and environmental triggers known to accelerate skin ageing.

Now I'm not meant to be putting active ingredients on my face at the moment but my dermatologist didn't mention cleansers and exfoliants, so I'll ask him about those before using it (it may be that he's more concerned about products you leave on your skin, as opposed to the ones you wash off).

In the meantime, I can still use this on my neck and dec so I'll look forward to doing that. I do miss my active ingredients so if I can use something like this elsewhere, I'll be happy.

Dermalogica Overnight Repair Serum and Phyto Replenish Oil

These two products came as part of a GWP set so I'll discuss them together.

The serum is described as a powerful peptide serum with Argan and rose oils to help stimulate cellular repair overnight. It should stimulate collagen production to help firm and renew resilience, and also revitalise dull skin and smooth away fine lines. This is another product that I'll be using on my neck/dec. I haven't had great luck with Dermalogica as a brand but I'm happy to have new items to use anyway.

As for the oil, it's apparently a feather-light treatment oil that should rapidly absorb to reinforce the skin’s protective barrier. You can wear it alone or layered under foundation for all-day dewy skin. Another product for the neck and upper chest! Looking forward.

Thalgo Collagen Cream

I haven't tried much from Thalgo so I was pleased to receive this product as part of a GWP set.

According to the product description, by combating the first signs of ageing, this rich cream with skin plumping Native Marine Collagen prolongs and protects your skin's youthful glow.

There's enough product in here to warrant a full review so I'll do one of those for this cream. Mind you, that review might take a little while because I would like to test it on my face and I'm not sure yet whether it's ok to use - so it might be another three weeks before I can open it.

Sephora Collection Express Cleansing Wipes for Face, Eyes and Lips

I don't buy makeup wipes these days but I did purchase these because I needed to spend an extra couple of dollars to qualify for free shipping (and therefore reduce my order total), and these cost exactly the right amount to get me over the line.

They should exfoliate and purify your skin, and cleanse and tone for a healthy appearance. They claims to remove all makeup, including long-lasting products. Good makeup wipes are hard to find in my experience, so I'll be interested to see how these go.

Chantecaille Flower Harmonising Cream

This came in our latest Mecca Beauty Loop box and it's described as a truly luxurious moisturiser that feeds the skin with anti-inflammatory vitamins to help promote collagen production and effectively relieve dry, dull skin. Featuring a slow-release 24-hour moisture system, it should deliver skin that stays balanced and hydrated throughout the day.

The 50ml full-size of this product retails for a whopping $155 AUD, so I hope that I don't like it too much! While I would never spend that much on a moisturiser, I'm more than happy to sample it and I have used some skincare from Chantecaille before that I've liked, so fingers crossed it's good.

In sum

That's all from me!

I'm pretty excited to be introducing some new products at this stage, I must say. Before contracting contact dermatitis, I reckon I had something like twenty different products to reach for (including occasional-use items like face masks and exfoliants), but these days I only have three cleansers, two moisturisers and an eye cream. I don't like the lack of choice, so these products will help tide me over until I have my next check-up and learn whether I can go back to my old routine.

Hope all's well with you, and speak soon x
