Rimmel Exaggerate Automatic Waterproof Eye Definer in 212 Rich Brown - review and swatches
/
1 Comments
I've already been through one of these and I'm now on to my second one, so I obviously like it enough to repurchase it.
While I had promised to take new photos of the second one to get some better shots, unfortunately it has this weird glue on the lid that covers most of the product (thanks Priceline), and I can't easily get it off so looks like we're sticking with these original shots.
Anyhoo. Let's make a start.
Rimmel claims/product details:
- Glide-on, full colour definition
- Soft, creamy texture in a retractable pencil with a built-in smudger for subtle blending and a sharpener for a high-precision line
- Waterproof formula for up to 10 hours long-lasting wear
- Choose your shade, from creamy matte to high metallic, all intensely pigmented
- Dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested
- RRP $12.95 AUD, but do shop around (I always wait until mine are half-price)
I'm not sure why the claims say the product comes with a sharpener because it doesn't. Perhaps they just mean that you don't have to sharpen it (which you don't).
It also comes with a smudger on the end, although I've never used it so I can't tell you what it's like.
Below are light and heavy swatches in direct sunlight:
Please ignore the glitter on my arm. The product is matte and doesn't contain shimmer - the glitter must be from some earlier eyeshadow swatches.
Below I've given the product a good rub with a towel after it set. You can see that it doesn't want to move!
Verdict
This is a decent eyeliner and there's a reason why I'm currently using my second one.
It's a standard twist-up arrangement that you don't need to sharpen, which is my preference so that's a plus.
Various shades are available but I've only ever bought the brown one because I'm not a huge eyeliner wearer: I only line my upper and lower waterlines, and I only ever use brown. Black closes in my small eyes but a soft wash of brown opens them up and offers definition. I also never line my eyelid because I have hooded eyes so I'm starved for lid space as it is.
There are two main reasons why I keep buying this. First, it's plain brown without shimmer or shine and funnily enough, there aren't many budget eyeliners available that are the right colour and finish for me. Second, you don't need to sharpen it. Given that many budget eyeliners require sharpening, this one's already ahead.
Also, I like that it adheres relatively well to the waterline. I don't go for a dark line when I use this because I don't like strong eyeliner on me, so I use just enough to add definition but not enough to give the 'I'm wearing eyeliner' look, which doesn't suit me.
I get around three to four hours' wear on the waterline, which I think is pretty good for a budget eyeliner. So many of the ones I've tried fall off almost immediately, but this one doesn't. That's why I will continue to buy it until I find one that lasts longer, if I ever do.
Overall I think this is a decent product and I recommend it. It's cheap, it lasts and you don't need to sharpen it.
'Nuff said.
