Andalou Naturals Age Defying Hyaluronic DMAE Lift & Firm Cream - review

This year I've spent a good deal of time exploring both Andalou Naturals and Ethique products, and I've found some products I do like and some I don't like from both brands.

When it comes to Andalou, I've discovered that I generally like the brand's cleansers and toners, but its serums and moisturisers don't work that well for me and its masks can be hit and miss. This particular face cream doesn't work for me and I'm annoyed about that because it's had some decent reviews, but I guess you can't win them all.

Andalou claims/product details:

  • Fruit stem cell complex, resveratrol CoQ10, and hyaluronic acid join forces to boost dermal vitality, supporting essential building blocks, collagen and elastin, for a more lifted, firmer, youthful appearance and rejuvenated complexion
  • Provides potent anti-ageing benefits to dry and mature skin
  • This rich, deeply moisturising day cream works to smooth the appearance of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation for a smooth, radiant complexion
  • For dry to very dry skin
  • Made in the USA with a minimum of 70% certified organic ingredients
  • Certified GMO free, vegan, certified cruelty free, certified gluten free
  • RRP $29.99 AUD for 50ml, but do shop around (I bought mine at half price)

Verdict

This cream doesn't work for me so I've had to send it to the overnight spot, where it's only functioning as a kind of barrier cream to seal in my other products and not doing much else.

It's a white cream that smells like berries and it has an interesting texture. It's almost like a whipped mousse to the touch and it has a cushiony feel. I like the texture and the scent so I enjoy applying this product, but unfortunately that's where the good stuff ends for me.

What I find is that it doesn't hydrate my skin at all. It doesn't absorb well for me so it sits on top of the skin, rather than sinking in and delivering nourishment where I need it. So while this cream claims to be for dry to very dry skin, it doesn't suit my dry skin at all.

I also find that it has a very sticky after-feel, and while that doesn't bother me now because I'm applying it overnight, it did bother me when I tried to use it in the morning. Indeed, when I started out with this I used it twice daily (morning and evening), and I found in the morning especially that my skin just felt sticky and dry after use and I didn't enjoy it at all.

As mentioned above, I can now only use this overnight as a way to seal in my other products because it only works as a barrier cream for me and I can't use it for hydration. I also can't use it underneath more hydrating products because it leaves a coating on my skin and nothing will penetrate through it.

Overall I don't like this product and I can't recommend it. It doesn't hydrate or nourish my skin, and since that's what I need it to do, I can't use is as I'd hoped to. Do note, though, that the reviews of this cream are ok so it obviously works for some - although plenty of reviewers have made the same comments I have so it doesn't work for everyone.

Not for me.
