This is one of those products that I'd heard so much about that I didn't buy it for the simple reason that I thought it wouldn't suit my skin.
That is, it's meant to mattify and it's designed for oily, acne prone skin - which definitely isn't me (I'm dry).
Funnily enough, it showed up in a recent Priceline goodies bag and I was super excited to finally try it. I wanted to know what all the fuss was about!
I'm pleased to report that I absolutely love it, so looks like it doesn't just work for those with oily skin.
While I'd imagined something that would completely dry me out and make my face look powdered, that's not what this does.
For me, it offers some beautiful nourishment and hydration to my dry skin, and it manages to do this without adding too much shine - an issue I've had with other mists when I'm applying them several times a day. Who knew? I'll sing more praises below.
La Roche-Posay claims/product details:
- A zinc sulphate solution specifically designed to target key signs of oily, acne prone, irritated skin
- Purifying, soothing and mattifying
- Perfect for use as a toner between cleansing and moisturising, or it can be used at any time of day to refresh and treat your skin
- A simple and effective solution to help prevent excess shine and tighten the appearance of pores
- This cult favourite, multi-use mist gives skin instant relief while balancing skin for an instantly smooth, porcelain finish
- Helps minimise irritation, clear up excess oil and calm inflammation to make skin appear smoother, softer and more even
- Can be used for soothing skin irritation on the body as well as razor burn and bug bites
- Instantly soothes and calms redness, irritation and breakouts
- Provides instant relief from shine by mattifying skin without drying
- Fortifies skin against excess oil, sensitivity and dehydration
- Keeps skin matte and smooth all day long
- Easy-spray applicator makes this a great on-the-go perfector
- An excellent makeup base
- Fragrance-free, oil-free and paraben-free
- Safe for sensitive skin
- Hypoallergenic, non-perfumed
- RRP $12.95 AUD for 50ml; or $24.95 AUD for 150ml, but do shop around
Verdict
This is a great little product and I'll absolutely be buying myself one in future. It appears that this product isn't just for oily skin, and those of us with dry skin can enjoy it too.
It's a standard face mist and the spray itself is very fine. This is one of the things I look for in my mists, so I'm pleased to report that this won't leave little droplets on your face or disturb your makeup.
On that, a couple of times I've applied a little too much and it has lifted my makeup from my skin just a bit, and also shifted it enough that it starts to slip into my pores and become more visible. So don't over-apply this if you're wearing makeup! A little goes a long way.
What I love about this product is that it's incredibly soothing, cooling and refreshing on the skin. I can absolutely imagine that you could use this to calm redness and for alternative uses like insect bites etc - although I myself haven't suffered from any of those things lately so I haven't been able to put this product to the test.
I also love that it's hydrating enough that it adds a good dose of nourishment to keep my dry skin feeling comfortable for a good few hours after use. This is something I look for in my mists and it's reason enough for me to buy another one.
As for whether it purifies, mattifies and deals with excess oil, I can't speak to this because I don't have oily skin - although I can confirm that it hasn't dried out my already-dry skin with frequent use. Perhaps if I used it more than once or twice a day, things might be different - but an occasional spray here and there has worked well for me.
Just thinking about it, perhaps not having excess oil is the reason why it doesn't mattify my skin. I can still see the dew from my tinted moisturiser showing through after I've sprayed this, so it doesn't stamp out the radiant look I prefer.
Overall I think this is an excellent product and I recommend it. Those with oily skin will probably know all about it, but I wanted to confirm that you can use this on dry skin too - just in case anyone else has been avoiding it like I have. Avoid no more!
Love.
