St Tropez Gradual Tan Classic Everyday Face Cream in Light/Medium - review
/
0 Comments
I reviewed my body cream from this line a few days ago (see here) and I'm back today to review the face cream. Note that they're very similar so my reviews of both products will be too.
Long story short, I do like it and it does work, although I've used face creams from St Tropez before that I like better because they're more hydrating on my dry skin. This one's lightweight so I think it would suit normal to oily skin better than dry skin. More on that below.
St Tropez claims/product details:
- For a natural, sunkissed glow
- Gradually builds to create a classic, healthy looking tan
- Quick-drying, non greasy and non pore blocking
- Softens skin and contains vitamin e to protect
- Newly formulated
- No self-tan smell, with our new mood-boosting fragrance
- 100% natural tanning actives
- Vegan friendly formula
- RRP $33.99 AUD for 50ml, but do shop around
Do note that I would have bought the darker version of this cream if it had have been available at my local Priceline.
Unfortunately it wasn't, so I went for this Light/Medium version because I thought it would still work for my skin. Thankfully it does, although I think the darker version would probably have been better for my medium skintone.
Verdict
This is a good product and I do recommend it, although it's expensive for what it is and I personally don't think you need to spend this much on a self-tanner - keeping in mind that I bought mine at half-price, in which case I was prepared to pay a little extra for it.
Note, though, that I've used facial products from St Tropez before that have not only been great tanners, but have also been great face creams (from memory it's the anti-ageing range that suits my skin). In that case I would be prepared to pay a little more because I'm getting a good tanner and a good moisturiser in one product, but this one isn't a fantastic face cream for dry skin so I'm glad I bought it at half-price.
It's a thick, white product with a hybrid gel/cream texture. It has a light and fresh scent, although I can absolutely smell the self-tanner underneath that fragrance so do be aware of this. Note that it's not an overpowering or offensive smell, though, and I'm not aware of it after application.
It spreads and absorbs well, but note that I need to use quite a bit per application - I guess because it's so thick and my dry skin does cling to it so I have to apply a good chunk each time. Thankfully, though, the tan this creates appears after one application and lasts for a week, so it doesn't matter that I need to use a lot because I don't have to use it very often.
As a face cream the product isn't super hydrating so it's not great for my dry skin and I've used self-tanners before that are more nourishing than this one. Nevertheless, since I'm only applying it once a week, this doesn't really matter. It also dries down very quickly and doesn't leave a tacky finish, so it should suit those who don't like heavier creams.
As a self-tanner, this gives me a good tan that looks natural and isn't orange in colour. Yes it's a warm shade, but it's more of a warm golden brown so it suits my yellow-based skin. I also haven't had any issues with streaking and it fades evenly.
Overall I think this is a good self-tanner - it works, it lasts and I don't need to use it very often - but it's not my favourite and it's also expensive for what it is so I would never buy it at full price. Also, I think this version of the cream is better for normal to oily skin, so next time I'll try another one.
Decent.
