Bioré Baking Soda Acne Scrub - review
/
0 Comments
This scrub came in a Priceline baggie and I wasn't going to keep it because I haven't had much luck with Bioré as a brand (especially its baking soda line), but I'm low on body scrub so I decided to try this on the face and then switch to using it as a body scrub if it didn't work for me.
Unfortunately it doesn't work for me so I will use it on my body, but first I wanted to review it after using it on my face for a while and deciding that it's not for me.
Bioré claims/product details:
- Unclogs pores and balances skin to reduce breakouts
- Great for combination skin
- With natural baking soda
- pH balanced formula
- Dermatologist tested
- Hypoallergenic
- Non comedogenic
- RRP $9.99 AUD for 127ml, but do shop around
Verdict
This product doesn't work for me and I can't recommend it, although it's not terrible and it's certainly not as bad as the other Bioré scrub I tried and didn't like (reviewed here).
It's a gel product with orange beads inside it and it does smell a bit like orange. Note that it lathers a tiny bit but not much and I can tell that it doesn't contain soap or SLS.
I can also tell that it's pH balanced because it doesn't strip the skin, and my pH strips rate it at about a six - so it's not too astringent and I reckon it's gentle enough for everyday use.
Note that the exfoliating beads it contains don't do much and I don't find this to be an effective scrub. They're large, smooth beads and they're quite sparse so there's not enough of them in my opinion, and even if there was enough, I don't think they would do much in terms of exfoliation because they're so large and smooth.
My main issue with this product, though, is that it contains menthol. Yes it's low on the ingredients list but I have a mild intolerance to menthol and peppermint (they tend to irritate my skin), and while I wouldn't say that this definitely irritates my skin, I can feel the cooling menthol in this and it's not a sensation I like. It's cooling in an unnatural and uncomfortable way, and I can just tell that it's not doing good things for my skin. Plus I can feel the cooling sensation long after I've used this, so it hangs around on my face and that can't be a good thing.
Overall I don't like this product and I can't recommend it, although I also don't think that it's awful. I don't think it's an effective scrub but if you wanted to use it as a cleanser, rather than an exfoliant, I'm sure you could do a lot worse because it is pH balanced and it's also very cheap.
Not for me.
